She’s been spayed, suffered mastitis, and endured an erupting pus incident. Regarding that last mentioned drama, it took the better part of the first day for the pus to eventually slow to an occasional trickle. By the next day, the lesion was only leaking a little bit every now and then.
But Tabby’s spirits remained high, and she was as loving as she’d ever been, if not more so. Murphy, who Tabby’s adopted as her dog, didn’t know what to think when she was so sick two weeks ago. He’d come in to check on her with me and look up at me with very sad eyes when she wouldn’t move or even bother to come see him. Which was cute, because usually his expression is one of exasperation and resignation.
But a few days of TLC and a generous helping of antibiotics did her body good. She was back to rubbing up against Murph and nuzzling him like she does, as well as harassing poor Mr. Meow. (He’s still not allowed upstairs, and especially not in our room.)
Then this past weekend she showed marked improvement when the lure of the toys and the infamous red hut proved irresistible. I laughed as she batted the jingle bell balls, swatted at the stuffed mice, and chased after whatever got away from her. It was really good to hear that kind of commotion going on again!
Her appetite has returned too. So much so the stampede for the food bowls in the morning is back on. It had been a little less exuberant lately.
Then yesterday, exactly one week after the pus incident, we returned to Dr. Singleton for a checkup. Dr. Singleton was impressed with Tabby’s progress, especially when she examined her belly and saw both the spay stitches and the lesion had healed.
Phew!
I’m so grateful she’s alive and doing better. She’s really such a sweet, loving, funny cat, and I hope the rest of her seven lives are spent healthy and happy and staying out of further trouble. (Maybe seven’s being optimistic. I know she’s used up at least two of her nine lives since I’ve had her. Who knows how many she spent before that, but I’m hoping not too many. I’d like to have her around for as long as possible!)
