Student Loans Waived for Green Jobs?

If you have ever gone to college, you know it ain’t cheap. But, the state of Connecticut is trying to institute a new approach to helping students out – green students that is. There is legislature in Connecticut now that could waive student loans of those seeking degrees or certificates in green careers. Other states that have been in need of certain types of professions, such as doctors, nurses, and teachers, have waived student loans in the past in lieu of the students promising to practice in that state for a certain amount of time after graduation. But, this Connecticut … Continue reading

A Haunting in Connecticut

Another ghost story based on a true event is currently in theaters. But, with information suggesting that another famous “true” ghost story, the Amityville Horror, was a hoax, you have to wonder what is really real. In case you haven’t seen The Haunting in Connecticut (and I haven’t either – not the type of film you take a four year old to), here’s the back story. Carmen Reed, her then husband, three children, and two nieces moved into a home on Meriden Avenue in Southington, Connecticut in the ‘80s. The night the family moved into the former funeral home, Reed’s … Continue reading

Scary Places: Union Cemetery in Easton, Connecticut

Okay, so you might expect a cemetery, especially at night, to be a bit spooky. But, some say that Union Cemetery in Easton, Connecticut is especially full of unexplained phenomena. The cemetery dates all the way back to the 1600s, so there is a lot of history there. Of course, the cemetery is closed after dark and the Easton Police regularly patrol it, but that doesn’t stop curiosity seekers from breaking the law. Visitors have reported taking photos of orbs, light rods, and ectoplasmic mists. There is one apparition, the White Lady, who many people have reported seeing over the … Continue reading

Crazy About Cabela’s

How far would you be willing to travel to shop at a store large enough to house a mock Rocky mountain range (complete with working waterfall), a life-size Cessna airplane, and a 10,000-gallon aquarium filled with trout, carp, and other fish. Judging by the license plates on the vehicles I’ve seen at the Cabela’s outdoor store near my home, some people are willing to drive thousands of miles to browse through the retail store/natural history museum. The massive complexes located around the country, which are part educational attraction, part entertainment venue and part retail giant have fast become tourist destinations … Continue reading

Stamina Makes All the Difference When it comes to choosing a fitness plan and implementing one, stamina makes all the difference. It’s hard to maintain a workout program if you flag after just ten minutes of walking. The only way … Continue reading

Marriage Laws: Massachusetts & Connecticut

With the wedding season fast approaching, I wanted to spend this month talking about the marriage laws throughout the country. Yesterday, we tackled Maine and New Hampshire. Today, we’re going to continue our journey through New England to Massachusetts and Connecticut. I love New England in the fall; by the way, it’s a beautiful place to host a wedding with the spectacular color of the turning leaves and more. But we’ll save that for another blog, for now, let’s take a look at obtaining a wedding license and marriage laws in Massachusetts. Massachusetts Massachusetts is the single state in the … Continue reading
