Surviving Independence Day with a Toddler

There are few toddlers who are not captivated by the sight of colorful fireworks lighting up the night sky. It’s the thunderous booms most tots can live without. You want to see real fireworks?  Take an unsuspecting toddler with sensitive hearing to a Fourth of July fireworks show and you’ll get a front row seat to an explosive meltdown the likes of which will surpass any holiday pyrotechnic show. Trust me. Unfortunately, if you have older children, who are unfazed by the massive booms that resonate in your head and chest, the option of staying home on the Fourth is … Continue reading

This was a busy week for many of us in the United States with the 4th of July landing squarely in the middle of the week. It was busy at Disney World and other Disney parks as they celebrated the 4th of July in a very Mickey fashion. It’s also a week where we saw the announcement of the vault opening to release the Jungle Book once more. So let’s take a look at our week in review. Hump Day Hesitations & The 4th of July

Let me preface this by saying Happy 4th of July to all our American readers and visitors. For everyone else, good morning. Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for a fitness program, why? Because Wednesdays are a particularly tough day for anything. It’s hump day. It’s the middle of the week and that means you are either still caught up in the doldrums of the Monday lag or your eye is firmly on Friday and you don’t want to think about today. Keep Your Fitness Thoughts on Today You need to practice focusing on your day to day work and … Continue reading

Last Minute Fourth of July Ideas

The Fourth of July always makes me a little sad. It means summer that is halfway done. The Fourth always means that by next week we will start seeing back to school displays in the stores. Tomorrow we are planning on hot dogs, potato chips, and homemade chocolate ice cream after a long hike in the mountains. And I have supplies for us to try a spray version of tie-dye t-shirts. I’ll let you know if it works. And we’ll hit our local fireworks show, too. I seem to specialize in last minute ideas for holidays. Here are some for … Continue reading

Scrapbooking the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is a festive and fun time to celebrate pride in our country. It is also an excellent time for families to come together and spend time with each other. The Fourth of July, no matter which state it is being celebrated in, is a day filled with BBQ’s, picnic’s, games, swimming, water activities, and of course, fireworks. The fireworks are usually the biggest part of the day, and are the thing that brings the day to a close at the end of the night. So besides a bunch of fireworks, what else is there to commemorate … Continue reading

Disney’s Special Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is a special holiday here in the United States. It’s a day of patriotism, history, fireworks, beaches, picnics and camaraderie. It’s a day when all Americans enjoy America in all her forms – from her capitalistic ventures to her militaristic achievements and so much more. Disney, in many ways, represents a large slice of Americana and so it’s appropriate that their Fourth of July celebrations seem pretty exciting. This year, the Mouse will be doing something a bit different. The forecourt of Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom, Disney World Orlando will be the scene for … Continue reading

Celebrate Your Fitness

Woot! Yesterday, I told you to make Monday – My Day and I did just that – after getting my morning work done and taking in a couple of meetings – I retreated from a day at the computer to spending the day with my daughter. We played – both inside and out – we also took a long nap in the late afternoon while watching a Tom and Jerry movie. It was both relaxing and completely rejuvenating. Happy Fourth of July A Tuesday holiday is always a bit weird because it breaks the week up and we go from … Continue reading

Getting Married on the 4th of July?

The 4th of July celebrates and honors the birth of the United States. It is the day we celebrate our freedoms as well as honoring all those in our history who have gone before us to ensure that freedom. It marks a unique day for celebrating a personal union and can make a great day to get married for the couple who embraces history or a patriotic theme. I know a number of military families that married on or around July 4 because of the deep meaning it has. Patriotism has a very personal meaning for everyone and for our … Continue reading

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July! Here is wishing you and your family a great and safe day whether you are going for a picnic, a community celebration, and fireworks or staying home to watch celebrations and honors on television tonight. For many parents with very young infants, staying in on the 4th of July may not seem preferable, but is often the choice made. The first 4th of July we celebrated after my daughter was born, she was eight months old and the weather was actually pleasant enough that we didn’t mind taking her out for an evening to watch the … Continue reading
