Joaquin Phoenix.. . .Rapper?

Recently, Academy Award nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix kissed acting goodbye, saying he was leaving to pursue a career in music. Or, did he? When I first read that Joaquin was not going to act anymore, I was saddened. I’ve loved his performance in many movies, but knowing a little about his family background, I wasn’t surprised. In case you didn’t know, Joaquin and his siblings (River, Rain, Liberty, and Summer) were brought up in a less than traditional atmosphere. Their parents, John and Arlyn, were members of the religion Children of God. The Phoenix children spent most of their childhood … Continue reading

Joaquin Phoenix Retires and “Melrose Place” Rides Again

It may have sounded like an April Fool’s joke, but the bomb actor Joaquin Phoenix dropped at a Paul Newman tribute earlier this week was anything but funny. The 34-year-old actor’s stunning announcement: He’s retiring from acting. “I’m not doing films anymore,” the two-time Oscar nominee told a shocked reporter from TV’s “Extra.” According to Phoenix, he’s leaving the big screen behind to concentrate on his music career. While he refused to elaborate on his plans, the actor did reveal that he is currently working on a record for the British band The Charlatans and has been contemplating a move … Continue reading

Calling All Iraq War Veterans—Your Chance to be a TV Star

The hundreds of thousands of men and women who risk their lives on a daily basis protecting our country are stars in their own right, only not all of them can brag that they made it on TV because of their jobs… until now. The mega-popular soap opera “All My Children” is holding an open casting call for an Iraq war veteran to play an injured veteran. That’s right; instead of taking the easy way out by hiring an actor to play the part, the ABC daytime serial is about to make history by inviting veterans to contact the show’s … Continue reading

Initiatives in Children’s Ministry

Think children’s ministry is not important? Think again. Statistics show that most decisions for Jesus are made in the years prior to 18. So there is a need to make children’s ministry a high priority in our church and community. Children’s ministry is not something to be left to those who have no skills or aptitude for it. Children’s ministry needs to be taken seriously with the gospel message given at a level relevant to the age and experience of the child. Youthworks takes the issue of children’s ministry seriously. This organization, which started around seven years ago, recognized the … Continue reading

How You Can Star In A Commercial For Dove

Have you ever dreamed of starring in a commercial for your favorite beauty product. No, I’m not talking about Calgon (although I’m sure many of us stay-or-work-at-home-moms have starred in our own versions of that famous commercial… on a weekly basis). I’m talking about a once in a lifetime opportunity to create your own ad for the makers of Dove beauty products. You’ll recall that the company made headlines a couple of years ago when it began using “real women” (no professional models or actors) in a line of ads promoting their products. The company is now known for “embracing … Continue reading

Put On A Puppet Show

One year for Christmas my mother made my children a puppet theatre along with a whole bag full of puppets. My children loved them. (My girls especially loved the princess, unicorn, knight, and dragon). They have spent many rainy and snowy days making up puppet shows that they then present to an audience of one, me. My son’s first puppet-show he wrote himself went something like this: “The little boy went to the zoo. He saw the tiger. The tiger got out of his cage and chased the boy. The boy got away. The zookeeper put the tiger back in … Continue reading

Acting Hookups

Today, I read on the CNN.com web site that actress Penelope Cruz and actor Matthew McConaughey have decided to split after almost two years of dating. The two met on the set of the film Sahara. This was not too long after Cruz broke up with Tom Cruise. She and Cruise dated for almost three years after they met on the set of the film Vanilla Sky. Hookups between actors on a set are nothing new, but they have been big news recently. There was of course, the most famous of all recently hookups – that of Brad Pitt and … Continue reading
