American Idol

“American Idol” fever has swept the nation and I got swept right along with it. From the moment it hit the American airwaves seven seasons ago, it’s been the talk of the break room, the water cooler, and the hair salon. So, just what is all the hype about? We start by seeing the auditions. The three judges—Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson—travel to different cities across the nation and audition local talent. These hopefuls first pass by preliminary judges who either wave them through or send them on their way. They are then sent one at a time … Continue reading

Broadway Stagehands Strike Affects Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

You’d think it was the night before Christmas around our home given how excited my daughter is for tomorrow to “get here already.” She’s 3 years old and a huge Hello Kitty Supercute (the cape- and tiara-wearing feline superhero) fan. The same Hello Kitty that will be floating down Broadway Thanksgiving morning during the Macy’s Parade. Hello Kitty, Sesame Street’s fairy-in-training Abby Cadabby, and 12 other giant helium balloons will fill the skies over New York City tomorrow as part of the 81st annual parade. But besides the character balloons, 2,000 cheerleaders and 11 marching bands, the famous Turkey Day … Continue reading

Simon Cowell’s Take On Britney The Train Wreck

You had to know that “Mr. Nasty” (or is he the “King of Honesty”) Simon Cowell wouldn’t be able to hold his tongue too long after watching Britney Spears tank on the MTV Video Music Awards. Here are some of his kinder remarks: “Britney made possibly the worst comeback in history on Sunday night, performing her new track Gimme More. She pranced around like a zombie in bra and pants in a performance which could have effectively ended her career as a pop singer.” Cowell, who has had a hand in shaping the careers of pop singers around the world … Continue reading

The Recording Academy, together with CBS, and Yahoo is holding a contest to find an unsigned artist to perform with the “SexyBack” singer at the Grammy Awards, to air live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 11th. So where do you sign up to perform with Timberlake? (By the way did … Continue reading

Barry’s Bedside Good Luck Charm

Did you watch the Emmy Awards on Sunday night? If you did, then you likely saw the show’s touching tribute in honor of the legendary Dick Clark. As a part of the tribute to Clark, singer (and pop culture icon) Barry Manilow performed “Bandstand Boogie,” the theme from Dick Clark’s “American Bandstand.” Shortly after Manilow finished his song he embraced Clark and they exited the stage. But, only a few minutes later Manilow was back front and center to accept an Emmy for outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program for a show he did on PBS. Manilow’s … Continue reading
