Kids Choice Award Nominees

I guess since I have a preschooler, I should begin paying more attention to this stuff. But frankly, unless the Backyardigans or Wonder Pets show up, I think Will could careless about these awards – for now at least. But, I am sure my time is coming! Nickelodeon announced the nominees for its Oscars yesterday – the 21st annual Kids Choice Awards. Who received the most nominations? Shrek the Third received four nominations – Favorite Animated Movie and three nominations for Voice from an Animated Movie (for Michael Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz). Miley Cyrus, who seems to be … Continue reading

What’s Going On with the Hollywood Writers Strike?

While Marcia Cross was lobbying Congress and Eva Longoria was fending off pregnancy rumors leaders from the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers finally began talking to each other again this week. Their informal meetings have not yielded much in the way of good news, but at least they’re talking. An announcement made a couple of days ago said the warring parties would begin with informal bargaining and work their way to “full negotiations” in hopes of ending the nearly 3-month-old strike. So where do fans of TV and TV award shows stand … Continue reading

Can the Show Really Go On?

In a previous blog I noted that despite the ongoing Hollywood writers strike the Hollywood Foreign Press Association along with NBC vowed to move forward with the Golden Globe Awards presentations, which is scheduled to air January 13th. However, less than 24 hours ago, the Screen Actors Guild threw a major wrench in the broadcast’s plans and you now have to wonder how the show could possibly go on. SAG officials announced yesterday that Golden Globe-nominated actors and presenters won’t attend the televised award because doing so would mean they would have to cross Writers Guild of America picket lines. … Continue reading

Major Changes in Store for This Year’s People’s Choice Awards

If you haven’t noticed how the ongoing Hollywood writers strike has affected various TV shows then you will definitely be in for a shock when you tune into this year’s People’s Choice Awards. The ceremony, which typically airs live, will be far from it during the January 8th telecast. According to show producers, the only thing that hasn’t changed to accommodate the work stoppage is that Queen Latifah, who previously was announced as host, will still be part of the new format. The show will go on, but not in a way that any of us has ever seen before. … Continue reading

Oh No, We Won Best New Artist – Part 1

I often wonder if this is what a singer or band thinks when they win this award. After all, many have received the Best New Artist award only to go on to … obscurity. Oh sure, they may still put out records or tour, but somehow they never live up to the potential that is associated with the Best New Artist moniker. I know you are thinking “Libby, give us some examples,” so give I shall. Here are some of the MTV Video Music Awards Best New Artist (BNA) winners that charted higher before their award than they did afterwards: … Continue reading

Grammys Are Coming, the Grammys are Coming

The Grammy Awards show, the biggest night in music, comes on tomorrow (Feb 11th) on CBS. I already have my DVR set to record just in case I forget because I don’t want to miss the reunion of the Police. I am so excited by this; I am listening to their Message in a Box set of CDs as I write this. At least the Grammys are lucky this year – they are on Sunday night, so they don’t have to go up against that television juggernaut American Idol. Last year, they were on the same night and the Grammys … Continue reading

Emmy, Her Bags and the Internet Revenue Service

I don’t know about you, but I am always a little envious when I hear of all the fabulous goodies inside an award show’s gift bag. Stuff that you and I can often only dream about is given to celebs who present at the shows. The goodie bags for this year’s presenters at the Emmy Awards (held August 27th) contain items that total between $27,000 and $33,000. But now, the IRS is wanting some of it. Celebrities were reminded by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in a letter that the IRS sees the goodies inside the bag as … Continue reading
