Barack Obama’s Jam Packed, Star-Studded Inauguration

A while back, I blogged about the upcoming Barack Obama presidential inauguration and how people were chomping at the bits to get tickets. If you have been one of the lucky ones to be promised a ticket, but haven’t reserved a hotel room, you may be out of luck! Hotels in D.C. have been booked for months and now people are stretching out into Baltimore and Virginia to look for places to stay. D.C.. Mayor Adrian Fenty is even allowing citizens to rent their homes out without first obtaining a business license, but that doesn’t seem to be easing the … Continue reading

Miley Cyrus Scores a Used Car and Stars Seek Out Obama

The words “Miley Cyrus” and “frugal” don’t seem a natural fit to me, but then again everything is relative. The latest out of Hollywood is that the tween singing sensation is the proud new owner of a car. A Porsche Cayenne to be exact. But, here’s the catch: the hot wheels are a hand-me-down from her mom. According to reports, after earning her learner’s permit two days ago, the “Hannah Montana” star received an early Christmas present from her mom Tish. Mommy dearest apparently handed her freshly turned 16-year-old the keys to her Porsche. (Which by the way, retails for … Continue reading

Oprah Winfrey Doesn’t Want a Job From Barack Obama

Not that he asked… but if the soon-to-be leader of the free world did, Lady O says she would definitely turn him down. Despite all the money she donated, all the time she spent aiding him on the campaign trail and all the tears she shed in Grant Park during his now famous acceptance speech, Oprah Winfrey says she would never give up her day job to work for President-elect Barack Obama’s administration. “I have a few full-time jobs already and a few full-time commitments, you know – contractual commitments that say I have to be where I am,” Winfrey … Continue reading

Barack Obama’s Fitness Routine

How does your fitness regime stack up against President-Elect Barack Obama’s? For starters, unless you are hitting the gym six days a week, then you might not be able to out run the soon-to-be “leader of the Free World” in an impromptu sprint or beat him in a pick-up game of hoops. Obama details his fitness routine in the November issue of Men’s Health magazine. According to the 47-year-old President-Elect, he plans to keep up his daily exercise regime even after he makes the move to Washington, D.C. next month. Currently the former high school basketball standout says he gets … Continue reading

Getting Tickets to Barack Obama’s Inauguration Parties

On January 20th, history will be made when Barack Obama is sworn in as the first African American president of the United States. As United States citizens who elected him, we should be able to attend some of the celebratory events in person, right? Eh, well, maybe not. (This United States Congress image is in the public domain.) There will be many events, but your chances of getting tickets to one is probably slim and none. Don’t let anyone on eBay fool you by saying they have one of the “New Path to Freedom” inauguration ceremony tickets for sale because … Continue reading

Parental Reflection

For many parents Sunday night is a time to shift gears from laid-back weekend mode back to a regimented weekday routine. It’s also a time many of us pause to reflect on the events have transpired over the last seven days (and beyond). Doing so gives us the chance to put things in perspective or gain new insight on a particular issue. With that said I thought it would be appropriate to recap some of the topics we covered in the Parents blog this week. If you missed any of the lively “discussions” now is your chance to catch up: … Continue reading

Bill Cosby Speaks Out About Obama Win

Given all that we know about Bill Cosby, would any of us really be surprised if President-elect Barack Obama asked the actor to become an advisor on education issues? I know I wouldn’t. The award-winning actor/comedian/author turned education advocate isn’t publicly addressing offers by Obama (right now anyway), but he is speaking out about his influence on the nation’s first African-American president. There’s an argument circulating around media-types that Cosby’s mega-successful NBC sitcom “The Cosby Show” (which aired from 1984-1992) laid the groundwork for President-elect Obama by presenting an appealing black family to influential young voters, who grew up equipped … Continue reading

Grandma in the White House

Now that they’ve exhausted the puppy issue, the media has suddenly become obsessed with the prospect of Michelle Obama’s mother becoming the First Grandmother and moving into the White House with the rest of the family come January. Granny’s in the hoooooouse! According to news reports, after some prodding, Michelle convinced her 71-year-old mother Marian Robinson to leave her home on the South Side of Chicago and move to Washington, D.C. with the rest of the Obama’s. Initial reports had the Obama’s looking for new digs for Robinson near the White House, but now some media outlets are reporting that … Continue reading

Obama Girls Going Hollywood?

Thanks to their father’s new job, we know President-elect Barack Obama’s two young daughters are headed to Washington, but if the folks at Disney have their way, Malia and Sasha Obama may have a chance to take Hollywood by storm as well. In a statement released earlier this week execs at the Disney Channel (one of the Obama girls’ favorite TV networks) invited the newest first children the opportunity to appear on the mega-popular hit series “Hannah Montana.” “We’re pleased that Malia and Sasha are fans and, as long as their parents say it’s OK, they are invited to the … Continue reading

Barack and Michelle Obama Visit the White House

Yesterday, Barack Obama got a close up look at his new stomping grounds for the next four years as he was given a tour of the Oval Office by President Bush in their first official meeting. The incoming president described his new office as “pretty nice.” First Lady Laura Bush took Michelle Obama to her new domain – the East Wing. Then, Laura and Michelle rejoined Bush and Obama to check out the private residence where the Obamas, along with their daughters Malia, 10 and Sasha, 7, will live. The Obamas also met with Coast Guard Admiral Stephen Rochon (director … Continue reading
