Rue McClanahan Dies at 76

We are running out of “friends” as another “Golden Girl” has died. Rue McClanahan died on June 3rd after suffering a stroke. She was 76. McClanahan (Blanche, the man-crazed Golden Girl) follows Estelle Getty (Sophia, the oldest Golden Girl), who died in 2008 of natural causes and Bea Arthur (Dorothy, Sophia’s daughter), who died in 2009 of cancer. That leaves only Betty White (Rose, the dimwitted Golden Girl), the 88-year-old dynamo who has seen a recent resurgence in her career. McClanahan was born in Healdton, Oklahoma and made her acting debut on stage in 1957 at the Erie Playhouse in … Continue reading

PETA Takes on Kim Kardashian, Resurrects Bea Authur

While the Humane Society is busy trying to get McDonald’s to use cage-free hen raising practices, PETA is continuing to fight other battles. The battle this week is with reality star Kim Kardashian. No, Kim didn’t wear fur or eat meat, but she did abuse a kitten, according to PETA. Kardashian posted a photo of herself holding a kitten by the scruff of the neck. But, mama cats don’t have … Continue reading

The duo was known for such hits as “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” and “Everything that Glitters (is Not Gold).” Seals died of mantle cell lymphoma. April 25 … Continue reading

Bea Arthur Dead at 86

I was sad today to read that Bea Arthur died. I know many of those reading this blog will remember her as Dorothy Zbornak from “The Golden Girls.” Dorothy was a great character – my favorite on the show – but when I read of Bea’s death, I actually thought of another of her television characters – Maude. “Maude” first aired on CBS in September 1972, but the character had earlier appeared in “All in the Family” as Edith’s cousin. If ever anyone could take on Archie Bunker, it was Maude. Maude was a modern woman in a time when … Continue reading
