Former Beatles Reunite

With the deaths or John Lennon and George Harrison, the possibility of a true Beatles reunion is impossible. So, what is the next best thing? How about the remaining two members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr appearing on stage together? That is exactly what happened Saturday night at Radio City Music Hall. The two former Beatles appeared on stage together for the first time in six years to raise money for the David Lynch Foundation’s Change Begins Within Benefit concert. The David Lynch Foundation offers funding for students to learn transcendental meditation. The before and after programs of the foundation … Continue reading

Yoko to Heather – “Try to Survive”

I recently blogged about Heather Mills and her recent divorce from Paul McCartney. After a bitter break up, the two finally settled on a financial amount – $48.6 million. While that does sound like a lot of money, it was nothing compared to the $1.6 billion he is estimated to be worth. She had to know that going up against the cutest Beatle would be an uphill battle. I mean, who doesn’t love Paul McCartney? I am not even a Beatles fan and he is my favorite Beatle! Therefore, no matter what went on in the marriage, he had the … Continue reading

Moving On: Mills and McCartney

Less than a week after their divorce was finalized ex-super celebrity couple Paul McCartney and Heather Mills showed up in front of cameras… a half a world a way from each other. The former Beatle was snapped getting in some R&R with rumored ladylove Nancy Shevell during a tropical getaway on the coast of Antigua. PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the low-key couple have secluded themselves in a $2,375-a-night two-bedroom suite with a kitchen and beachside balcony at Jumby Bay, a posh resort on a 300-acre private island. Their days in paradise have reportedly been spent taking long walks along … Continue reading

Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – August 3, 2007

Osama’s After Bobby Brown I am sorry, but this was one of the funniest news stories I have read in quite a while. Bobby Brown, ever the egomaniac, thinks that Osama Bin Laden wants him dead – so he can have Whitney Houston all to himself! Now first of all, Bobby and Whitney are divorced, so that would lead me to think Bobby was more than safe – as if Osama Bin Laden would want Whitney Houston in the first place! But Bobby insists that he is still on Osama’s hit list. He hired extra security to surround him when … Continue reading

Beatles Song + Diaper Commercial = Controversy

Have you seen the TV ad? Devoted Beatles fans are lashing out at the maker of a popular brand of disposable diapers. Procter & Gamble, the maker of Luvs diapers, is currently running a TV commercial which features the Fab Four’s 1967 peace anthem “All You Need Is Love.” The TV ad shows a diaper-clad tot wrestling with a stuffed bear as his smiling family looks on. The commercial’s tag line is: “All you need is Luvs.” Company executives say their use of the song was simply to provide consumers with an upbeat introduction to the new Luvs’ “Bear Hug … Continue reading

Sgt. Pepper Turns 40

As I said in an earlier blog, June 1st will be the fortieth anniversary of the release of one of the most influential albums of all time – St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles. When I was young, I have only one memory of Sgt. Pepper’s. It’s odd, but I remember being young (couldn’t have been any more than seven) and at someone else’s house. I saw the album and was fascinated by all the images of people on the cover. I asked someone who they all were and the person, I’m pretty sure it was neither … Continue reading

The Beatles Are Coming! The Beatles Are Coming!

Although I am too young to have enjoyed the American invasion of the mop tops, I may be able to relive a small part of it today, Valentine’s Day. Apple Inc. (the Mac company) has acquired the first direct download rights to the entire catalogue of the Beatles music. Rumor has it that these songs will be made available today, February 14th, in the iTunes music store. The digital versions of the Beatles songs will be available in iTunes exclusively for the first three months. I can’t yet confirm this as fact. One of the things that Apple is pretty … Continue reading

Paul McCartney Files for Divorce

I opened CNN today to see that Paul McCartney had officially filed for divorce from his second wife, Heather Mills McCarthy. The reason was “unreasonable behavior.” I had no idea you could file under that – maybe it is just in British courts. Heather’s spokesperson has said she intends to counter file in both England and the United States. Paul’s first wife, long time love and band mate, photographer Linda Eastman McCartney, died of breast cancer in 1998. The very devoted couple had been married for almost 30 years. In 1999, Paul met former model and activist Heather Mills at … Continue reading

Billy Preston – Keyboard Genius

I was saddened to hear that keyboardist Billy Preston died on June 6, 2006 from kidney failure. I knew he had been in poor health for years, but I have always loved his music and it is a staple of my iPod. You may remember Billy Preston for his funky hits of the 70s such as “Nothing from Nothing, “Will It Go ‘Round in Circles” and “Outta Space.” But, he made many behind the scenes contributions to the music industry including working with the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Preston became close with Beatle George Harrison after playing on the “Let … Continue reading
