It’s Not Barbie, It’s Bindi

She claims she doesn’t play with Barbie dolls, but perhaps she’ll make room on her shelf for her look-alike. Bindi Irwin is a doll. Really. The Emmy-winning daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin can now sit in your child’s bedroom. Well, at least a 10-inch version of the spunky tyke can. Wild Republic, a division of K&M International Inc., based in Ohio, just announced it is developing two different Bindi dolls. The first Bindi Irwin doll sports khakis, puffy pigtails and hiking boots, and comes with binoculars, a camera and other outback gear, as well as a cockatoo, … Continue reading

Crocodile Hunter’s Dad Gets the Boot from Son’s Zoo

Can’t we all just get along? There is a major disturbance going on in the Australian zoo created by the late Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin… only it doesn’t involve feisty animals. According to Australian TV reports, Irwin’s father, Bob, said he quit the family’s Australian conservation park because he had become a “disrupting influence.” That’s his story anyway. The Australian media have their own take on what really went down behind the zoo’s gates. Rumor has it Terri Irwin, Steve’s wife and mother of his two children, had fallen out with Bob Irwin following his son’s death in a 2006 … Continue reading

Croc Hunter’s Son Attacked by a Snake and Ledger’s Replacements Announced

Since “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s tragic death in 2006, the conservationist’s 9-year-old daughter Bindi has replaced him in the media spotlight. That is until his 4-year-old son got bit by a snake. Irwin’s son Bob made headlines recently after he sustained a wound from a baby boa constrictor. According to Irwin’s widow, Terri, the snake bit her son’s finger, but it was not venomous and the boy is doing well. So well in fact that he was able to join his sister and his mom at a media event to promote a new line of toys. While there Terri Irwin … Continue reading

The Crocodile Hunter’s Family Speaks out Against Whaling

The family of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin — wife Terri and daughter Bindi — are making 2008 their year for a campaign against Japanese whaling. After Steve Irwin’s death in 2007, Terri Irwin purchased a whale watching business. That whale watching business will help launch the Irwin family’s anti-whaling project. Terri’s goal is to demonstrate that whale research can be done without killing — Japanese whalers continue to hunt and kill humpbacks in the name of science. Whale data gathered by Irwin’s whale watching business in the southern hemisphere will be analyzed at Oregon State University. Japan has … Continue reading

Dress Your Kids Like A Crocodile Hunter

Tuesday marks the first anniversary of “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin’s tragic death off the Great Barrier Reef. You’ll recall the animal activist was killed when a stingray barb pierced his chest while he was taping a segment for his wildlife show. In the months since Irwin’s death, his 9-year-old daughter Bindi has made headlines picking up where he left off. Proving that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree Irwin’s daughter has morphed into “Bindi the Jungle Girl” and now stars in a TV show bearing the same title. “Jungle Girl” Bindi lives in a tree house and hangs … Continue reading

Celebrity Babies and Birthdays

I was fortunate enough to meet her the day after she won a gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, though I didn’t get invited to her wedding. Still, I am thrilled to spread the good news that gymnast Dominique Moceanu and her husband Dr. Michael Canales will be welcoming their first child in January. Currently, 25-year-old Moceanu is living in Cleveland with her foot and ankle surgeon husband and teaching gymnastics to girls who weren’t even born when she and the rest of her “Magnificent 7” teammates struck gold in Atlanta. Gymnastics may have been a … Continue reading

No Barbie Dolls For Bindi

Forget about Barbie, for 8-year-old Bindi Irwin playtime is all about Blackie—-her black-headed python. Would you expect anything less from the daughter of the late crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin? In addition to Blackie, Bindi recently revealed that she spends quite a bit of time with Corny, her “lovable” corn snake (the one she sleeps with every night). Then there’s Jaffa her koala; Ocker, her favorite cockatoo; and Candy, her pet rat. The junior “Crocodile Hunter” is hoping to give her pets some serious airtime on her new TV show so the rest of the world can get to know them … Continue reading

Celeb Updates: Bindi and Richie

BINDI IRWIN “Crocodile Hunter” Jr., Bindi Irwin, hosted a very special guest at her late father’s beloved home away from home this week. The Dalai Lama visited Australia Zoo where he personally thanked young Bindi, her mother, Terri Irwin and younger brother, Bob for their dedication to preserving wildlife. The spiritual head of the world’s Buddhists visited with the Irwin family before addressing a sold-out crowd at the “Crocoseum.” (The last time the place was filled to capacity was nearly a year ago during a memorial service for Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin, who died when the barb from a stingray … Continue reading

Creating The Next Generation Of Crocodile Hunters

His life may have been tragically cut short, but 8-year-old Bindi Irwin does not want the world to forget her late father “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin. That’s why she is making the decision to continue the educational and conservation work he worked tirelessly to promote. Hence the creation of “Bindi: The Jungle Girl.” The series, which will air on the Discovery Kids Channel in the United States and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation beginning next month is an attempt to show kids that they can make a difference in the wild. “I’m proud to be showing kids that conservation and helping … Continue reading

Crocodile Hunter’s Legacy Lives On

ABC’s “The View” is on now and I just heard Rosie O’Donnell mention that her 6-year-old son (a dedicated Steve Irwin fan) hasn’t gotten into the water since The Crocodile Hunter’s death last month. Apparently, Rosie took her kids to Florida and while the rest of the family swam in the ocean, her son Blake stayed dry–too afraid to plunge into the warm waters for fear he too may be bit by a stingray like his hero Irwin. Perhaps Rosie’s son will benefit from the work Irwin’s 8-year-old daughter Bindi is undertaking to ensure the memory of her father—and his … Continue reading
