How to Make a Card Tree

Well the nativity scene is up right in a prominent place in the hall near the front door where anyone who comes can see it. The parcel man was the first visitor to see it. Then the lights went on the front window. The blue lights look like a crown around the bell and the star and the gold lights are arranged in a pattern around the bottom. It looks very pretty. The wreath is on the front door and baskets of pine cones and tinsel are scattered around several rooms. All we need now is the Christmas tree which … Continue reading

Lighted Luminaries for Christmas

Today while driving back from a long, hard day of shopping, we passed through a neighborhood and then had to double back. Each year, the entire neighborhood, which includes many cross-streets get together to put on a show that symbolizes the light of Christ through white paper bag luminaries. This neighborhood puts up the luminaries every year, and they span very far. I confess that we turned off our headlights and drove very slowly by. We had the feeling that we were traveling down a lighted Christmas runway, as the lights went off into the distance. The Christmas decorating around … Continue reading

Holiday Decorating Tips: Your Home and Yard

At one of the TV stations I used to work at we featured a segment during the month of December called: “Holiday Lights—Show Us Your Stuff.” We’d send a crew to document various homes in the viewing area that captured the holiday spirit. However, if you have the money but not the time (or motivation) to string hundreds of feet of lights or garland … Continue reading

Our Christmas Tree is Up!

We didn’t get it up or decorated when we had originally planned to do it, but our Christmas tree is officially ready as of 8:00 last night. Decorating the tree is a traditional thing we do together each year, with Christmas music playing in the background. It starts with my husband and I putting the tree together. It’s a nice one that is quite realistic looking (and I like it even better because I got a great deal on it one year at an after Christmas sale). Next, my husband checks then strings the lights. We seem to always have … Continue reading

Holiday Decorating: Christmas Crafts

When you start decorating for Christmas, do you decorate every room in your home, or just the main living areas? I know some people that decorate every inch. I usually do something in main rooms, the hall bathroom, and a little something in my kids’ rooms. We might put a few Christmas themed knick-knacks in their rooms, but mostly we’ve used stuff we made or things the kids made at school. We have quite a collection of ornaments that the kids have made over the years, too, and we hang each one on our tree. You might like some of … Continue reading
