Comedian Jokes About Special Needs Children at Palin Event

A comedian named Eric Golub told a joke at an event that most people would find to be distasteful. He compared liberal political ideology to “special needs children”. This occurred at an event for Sarah Palin, who is the mother of a child who has Down Syndrome. For a moment, put aside whatever you happen to think about politician Sarah Palin, or her political ideology. In this particular situation, the most relevant thing about the former governor of Alaska is that she is a mother to a child who has special needs. Her son, Trig Palin, has Down syndrome. Recently, … Continue reading

Actor Tony Curtis and Comedian Greg Giraldo Die

Hollywood lost two big talents this week. Screen legend Tony Curtis died Wednesday at his Las Vegas home of a cardiac arrest. He was 85. Curtis grew up in the Bronx and tragedy followed him throughout his childhood. The family was poor, briefly giving the children to an orphanage because they couldn’t feed them. His older brother Julius was killed at age 12 when he was hit by a truck, and both his mother and younger brother Robert suffered from schizophrenia. Curtis dropped out of high school to join the Navy during WWII. Once out of the military, Curtis decided … Continue reading

Michael Phelps the Comedian?

I suppose if Nancy Kerrigan can do it, why not Michael Phelps? The king of the pool will be stepping into unchartered waters when he hosts the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on September 13th. (We all know the number 8 was great for the swimming sensation in China; now we’ll get to see how 13 treats him.) Comedian Dick Martin Dead at 86

It is the end of a groovy, cool era man – “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” comedian Dick Martin died yesterday of respiratory complications at the age of 86. I didn’t know it until I read his obituary, but Martin lost the use of one of his lungs when he was a teenager and needed oxygen most of the day in later years. Martin met Dan Rowan in 1952 and they quickly formed their comedy team. They worked their way up the standup circuit, appearing in New York, Miami, and Las Vegas. Rowan always played the straight man while Martin was … Continue reading

Popular Comedian Makes A Run For Congress

You laughed at him on “Saturday Night Live” and laughed with him on Comedy Central, now comedian Al Franken wants you to start taking him seriously. Franken announced Wednesday that he is changing careers and will run for the Senate in 2008. He will be seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge Minnesota’s Republican incumbent Norm Coleman. The former “Saturday Nigh Live” regular made the announcement on the last day of his show on the liberal radio network Air America. His decision to run brings national attention to the race, in which yet another Hollywood star makes a run for office. … Continue reading

Hurricane Sandy Relief

Well, it’s Election Day and thank goodness – I don’t think I can take any more ads, debates, or Facebook posts. While many people are focused on the election, much of the country’s focus is still on Hurricane Sandy’s destruction on the east coast and providing relief to those in need. While the physical storm is over, the real problems still exist and will for months, if not years to come. Some people are having trouble getting gas, some are still without electricity, many are homeless, and now that section of the country is facing a nor’easter, which could bring … Continue reading

Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

The world lost a truly iconic comedian yesterday. Phyllis Diller died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles yesterday at the age of 95. (This file is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0) Diller was a pioneer for women comedians. She set the way for all of today’s female comedians, even Joan Rivers, who Diller called her protege. Rivers paid homage to Diller yesterday saying that Diller was the first to compete with male comedians and taught her something important – to be “very simple.” Much of Diller’s comedy centered on home life – something many … Continue reading
