Writers Strike Day 6—-Let the Firings Begin

Day 6 of the Writers Guild strike started with 102 members of “The Office” being fired. The hit NBC comedy shut down this week, and as a result, more than 100 below the line employees from grips and camera assistants to hairstylists and set dressers were given pink slips. In addition, the peacock network also informed the nonwriting staff of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” that it would be laid off next Friday if the strike doesn’t end. And since Leno has already gone public refusing to cross the picket line, show producers are looking at alternative ways of … Continue reading

New York City–A Biker’s Paradise?

New York City… honored for bike friendliness? I thought I had heard wrong, or perhaps, the guy on the news had made an error. However, upon further viewing I realized that someone (actually, an entire group of legitimate someones) really believes that the concrete jungle with its convey of yelling yellow cab drivers, take no prisoner pedestrians, and hordes of hassled truck drivers is a premiere place to travel on two wheels. Believe it or not, the League of American Bicyclists just awarded New York City a medal for bike friendliness. Okay, it’s a bronze medal, but considering it ranked … Continue reading

Biker Babes Unite

Did you know the fastest growing segment of motorcycle owners in the country wears skirts? I live in Harley country so seeing women on the back of souped up hogs is nothing out of the ordinary. But for others watching dozens of biker babes—driving—not riding on the back of motorcycles is quite a sight. (At least it was for my mother who was born and raised in Hawaii.) If you think the experience was unique for my mother think about how the chicks on those bikes must feel. Twenty years ago 90% of motorcycle owners were men. These days motorcycle … Continue reading

Really Smart and Really Dumb

REALLY SMART You know it’s a big deal if he brings his son with him… Make no mistake; David Letterman doesn’t take getting a building named after him lightly. In a previous blog I told you about Letterman’s alma mater, Ball State University, constructing a school building in his honor. The Indiana college is now home to the David Letterman Communication and Media Building. Thousands turned out Friday for the building’s dedication and to see Letterman in person. The ones who braved the rain were treated to a Top-10 list the talk-show host prepared to poke fun of his honor. … Continue reading

More Familiar Faces Return For New TV Season

The countdown to the new fall TV season is on… much to the relief of those suffering from rerun overload. The new fall season brings with it a slew of new shows, while other returning favorites are getting a shot of fresh talent from familiar faces. Take a look: JASON ALEXANDER “Seinfeld” fans rejoice—George and Elaine are reuniting! Well, sort of. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander will be sharing scenes in an upcoming episode of CBS’ “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” The reunion between the former “Seinfeld” co-stars should be hilarious to say the least. According to show producers, … Continue reading

Celebrity Celebrations

David Letterman may have found success in New York, but administrators at his midwestern alma mater want him to know that they haven’t forgotten about him. Officials at Ball State University announced yesterday that they plan to name the school’s new communication building after Letterman, a 1970 graduate. (Personally, I think it’s just a matter of time before the entire school is renamed David Letterman University.) The late night talk show host often mentions the college on his CBS show and the campus is already home to the Letterman Scholarship in the Department of Telecommunications. (Mark my words it’s just … Continue reading

Celebrity Bad News Good News

I figured I would start with the bad news as it is a bit more shocking than the good news: BAD NEWS Disheartening news for David Letterman: according to news reports, two inmates, including one who was once accused of plotting to kidnap the talk show host’s young son, escaped Friday in a truck while working at a state prison ranch in Montana. The two inmates, Kelly A. Frank and convicted burglar William J. Willcutt were reportedly working with a group of other prisoners assigned on a project involving irrigation pipes. Prison officials said a supervisor noticed one of the … Continue reading

Sanjaya Presents the Top Ten List on The Late Show with David Letterman

In case you haven’t been on the planet the last month and don’t know who Sanjaya is, I am talking about Sanjaya Malakar. Sanjaya has been both a curse and blessing to “American Idol” this season. People seemed to either love him or hate him. This innocent looking 17 year old with the huge smile managed to become so talked about, journalists were even asking presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton what she thought of him. What caused so many people grief was the fact that Sanjaya didn’t seem to get votes for his singing ability as much as his looks and … Continue reading

Celebrities On the Road To Recovery

Just 48 hours and counting until Regis Philbin returns to his regular spot on the talk show that made him famous… Philbin’s co-host Kelly Ripa announced that her “big daddy” would be back on the set of “Live with Regis and Kelly” on Thursday—six weeks after having triple bypass surgery. And, if that wasn’t exciting enough (really… according to show producer Michael Gelman, tens of thousands of fans sent well wishes to “Reege” during his absence from the show) David Letterman will make a rare appearance as Philbin’s first guest. The billing it fitting… after all, Philbin was a guest … Continue reading

Do You Brake (Or Veer) For Bicyclists?

In the past I have written blogs about the importance of wearing a bike helmet, but prior to yesterday I never thought about how I reacted when driving by bicyclists who were not wearing helmets. Perhaps, I shook my head in disgust or let out a sigh, or perhaps, even hoped that they wouldn’t get into an accident. But, I never took into account what I did behind the wheel. Well, not until yesterday. Yesterday I read an interesting report done by a Bristish professor who was run over twice by vehicles while he conducted a study on bicycle safety. … Continue reading
