Big Changes in a Little Marriage

On Wednesday March 12 my sister took my mom to Rocky Mountain Urgent Care in Aurora, Colorado, after my mom called her saying she didn’t feel right, she felt like she was going to die and could my sister please come take her somewhere, anywhere after she got off work. When they got to the urgent care center my mom’s oxygen saturation level was at 71 percent so they took some x-rays. The pneumonia she’d had last year had returned –and the nodules on her lung they’d also spotted last year had grown. The Nodules My mom was afraid of … Continue reading

Do You Prefer a Gentleman?

Yes, I have admitted it before. I am a huge Hannah Montana fan! I do actually enjoy watching the television show. And luckily I was inspired to write an article based on one episode that I remember. In that episode Miley’s dad and Lilly’s mom went out on a date. I am sure that if you are a watcher you also saw it. It probably has been a rerun a million times! The date did not end as happily as Miley and Lilly had hoped. Lily’s mom was upset because Miley’s dad wanted to pay for the dinner. Miley’s dad … Continue reading

Finding a New Purpose

Purpose is an important element in a full and motivated life. Unfortunately, for those of us who have gone through a separation, divorce, death, or have become single parents for whatever reason–we might feel as though we are “in between” purposes or what we thought was our purpose has let us down and we are traveling through life without one. One of the tasks of rebuilding a life and getting strong again is to find and nurture a new or modified purpose… The first step to finding a new purpose is to let go of the old one. Maybe you … Continue reading

There is a Great Deal of Choice in Home Business Operations

It is easy to fall into the trap of feeling like things are happening TO you or that you are just reacting to the external forces. Feeling strong, capable, and productive in your home business, however, requires that you acknowledge and take advantage of all of the opportunities for decision-making and that you realize how much choice you really do have in your business operations. Instead of feeling like a rowboat battered by the storms, you probably have a strong motor that you do not even know about… Many of us know that choice is one of the key elements … Continue reading

Trusting and Allowing Them to Make Their Own Decisions

Parenting and worrying go hand-in-hand—we want to protect our children from big mistakes and we want to guide and nudge them in the direction that we think is right for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. But, at the same time, we also need to learn how to allow our children to make choices and decisions too; and we need to trust that they will make choices and decisions that are right for them—even if they are not the same choices we would make! This trust and allowing room for personal choice starts early. I know that some … Continue reading

Family TV Programming is Still Popular

When I was a kid, we had four television channels to watch: three networks and PBS. (My parents’ idea of a remote control was telling either me or my brother to turn the knob on the television to change the channel.) Yes, I’m a little old. After seeing yet another commercial for a sitcom that represents a certain racial group as trashy, ignorant and uneducated, my husband and I reflected back upon our own childhood years and the quality programming we found in programs like Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons and The Cosby Show. Let’s face it, quality … Continue reading

Gypsy (1962) (1993)

“Gypsy” is a Sondheim musical based on the true life story of Gypsy Rose Lee, the most famous stripper in our history. This may seem like a strange movie for me to review, but let me explain why I found it worth discussing. Two versions of the film were done, one in 1962 and starring Natalie Wood and Rosalind Russell, the other made in 1993 and starring Bette Midler and Cynthia Gibb. I’ve seen them both, the Bette Midler version just last night. This review will encompass both films. Madame Rose has two daughters, one named Louise and the other, … Continue reading

Martian Child (2007)

“Martian Child” is one of the most touching films I’ve seen in a while. John Cusack stars as David, a man whose wife died two years ago. She was adopted, and it had always been her dream to adopt a child too, and they had planned on it. But her unexpected death changed their plans. David thinks maybe he should go ahead and adopt without her, but he’s not sure if he can make that kind of commitment. As a bestselling science fiction novelist, he has a life of his own and isn’t sure that becoming a father is right … Continue reading
