John Cena Talks Smack about Dwayne Johnson

Do you remember when Dwayne Johnson just went by the name The Rock and talked about the People’s Elbow? Yeah, neither do most of those at the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards show he hosted last night. Wrestler turned actor John Cena appeared on the award show last night, but Cena doesn’t seem to completely agree with the path Johnson has taken. Johnson came from a family of wrestling legacy (both is father Rocky Johnson and maternal grandfather Peter Maivia were wrestlers), but he hasn’t wrestled in the WWE full time since 2003. After an attempt at the obvious action hero … Continue reading

Hawaiian Officials Angered Over SNL Skit

I don’t know if you caught last week’s “Saturday Night Live” or not. The host was Dwayne Johnson, no doubt due to this weekend’s release of Race to Witch Mountain plus his hosting the upcoming Kid’s Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. I thought the show was great, but there was one skit that didn’t make several Hawaiian officials too happy. The skit involved Johnson (who is of Polynesian descent on his mom’s side) and SNL’s Fred Armisen as lowly paid entertainers in a Hawaiian hotel restaurant. The two danced around the restaurant, doing the hula, wearing grass skirts, and singing. But, … Continue reading

Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

The Nickelodeon is celebrating its 23rd annual Kids’ Choice Awards (KCAs) on March 28th. Now, I will have to watch because Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) will be hosting, but others will be watching for different reasons. (This image is a work of a U.S. Air Force Airman or employee, taken or made during the course of the person’s official duties. As a work of the U.S. federal government, the image or file is in the public domain.) Some may tune in to see if Chris Brown wins and if he shows up. Brown has been nominated for Favorite Male Singer … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Reinvents Himself – Part II

In my last blog, I was talking about how former WWE superstar Dwayne Johnson is reinventing himself into a movie star. First, he took on a bunch of action roles, understandable given his former profession. Then he starred in Disney’s The Game Plan. This was the perfect meld of the old Dwayne and the new Dwayne. He played a narcissistic football star (he played college football for the University of Miami) who unexpectedly finds out he has a daughter. Maybe this role hit close to home for Dwayne because he has a daughter of his own, Simone Alexandra. Proving he … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Reinvents Himself – Part I

We have a WWE clock in our garage that my husband has had for at least eight years. Every once in while when I am coming in from the car, I heard The Rock say “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” In case you haven’t noticed, what The Rock is cooking up is a new image for himself. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has gone from WWE superstar to movie star in a small amount of time and very successfully, I might add. He is even getting a new name – his old one. If you look at the … Continue reading

Get Smart (2008)

Would you believe … that this is a great movie with a fitting tribute to the original series, but a refreshing look at intelligence and comedy all in one package? Get Smart is a fun film that combines intelligence, sight gags and physical humor blend together to create an entertaining film that doesn’t take itself seriously and doesn’t ask the audience to either. Popcorn Humor I enjoyed the original series when I was a kid. It was fun and it was funny. Barbara Feldon was easy to admire and aspire to as the smart, savvy and beautiful Agent 99. Agent … Continue reading

Movies News: Chan’s No Fan and The Rock’s The Man

I was a bit disappointed to read the Yahoo headline that said “Jackie Chan No Fan of ‘Rush Hour’ Series. I love the Rush Hour trilogy! He and Chris Tucker could just keep on making them and I would keep on watching. Jackie said that when he released the original Rush Hour in 1998, he was just testing the U.S. market and really didn’t have high hopes for the film. He may not have had high hopes, but the film went on to earn $141 million at the box office. Jackie said after filming, he felt disappointed and didn’t like … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – From Wrestler to Movie Star

Okay, I will admit it – I am a wrestling fan! I loved it as a youngster growing up in Memphis. I had no idea how fake it was, but even when I found that out, I still watched. But, I missed a lot of it during the 90s when Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson came onto in the wrestling scene. But, although I don’t know much about him as a wrestler, I do like The Rock as an actor. He is the only thing that made The Scorpion King watchable for me. His new movie is an inspirational film titled … Continue reading
