In Memoriam – 2009 – Part 3

Before I could even finish my “In Memoriam” blog this year, we lost another celebrity – actress Brittany Murphy. The young actress died on December 20th after she was found unconscious in her bathroom. Her death was determined to be of natural causes, although the official cause of death has not yet been determined. Roasts are supposed to be harsh words from good friends that are meant in good humor and no one should know that any better than Joan Rivers. It has been a rough few weeks for Hollywood. Right on the heels of David Carradine’s June 3rd death came the news of Ed McMahon’s death on June 23rd. Not that it was unexpected, but it was still sad to lose a television legend like that. Farrah Fawcett Dies at 62

Much like Ed McMahon’s recent death, everyone had to be expecting to hear the news of Farrah Fawcett’s death and today, she became a true angel at the age of 62. The actress had been battling anal cancer. The Texas born beauty started doing television commercials in the late ‘60s/early ‘70s after a publicist saw her photo in the University of Texas at Austin “Ten Most Beautiful Coeds” photo shoot. She appeared in commercials for Noxema, Ultra Brite, Wella Balsam, and Mercury Cougar. Redmond O’Neal Gets Rehab

Redmond O’Neal, the son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, is getting another chance at getting clean. The 24 year old was arrested on April 5th for drug possession. He took a friend to visit another friend in jail and when the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officers did a routine check, they found Redmond in possession of heroin. Redmond learned this week that he will go to an intense rehab program. The program will include frequent drug testing and court appearances. Buffy is going to be a mommy. Sarah Michelle Gellar is reportedly expecting her first child with her famous husband Freddie Prinze Jr. The former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star is reportedly due to give birth in October. Gellar and Prinze have been married since 2002. It doesn’t look as though Kate Hudson will be following in Gellar’s footsteps. Farrah Fawcett Back in Hospital and Michelle Obama Back on TV–Maybe

Farrah Fawcett is facing yet another setback in her long battle against cancer. According to reports, the 62-year-old former “Charlie’s Angels” star is back in a Los Angeles hospital. Several papers are reporting that the actress was admitted Thursday with complications associated with cancer. The TV star was first diagnosed with the insidious disease in 2006 and has undergone chemotherapy and aggressive experimental treatments in the years since. Fawcett received good news when her cancer went into remission several months after her initial diagnosis, but the disease returned in 2007 leading the beauty to seek alternative treatments in Germany. Not long ago, I blogged about the recent drug related arrest of actress Mackenzie Phillips. Like Robert Downey, Jr., she was raised in what I consider to be an abusive household where drugs were frequently used by at least one of their parents. Other than the fact that they once shared the same hair color. It appears that both famous blondes have been victims of snooping medical employees at UCLA Medical Center. In a previous blog I detailed the ugly incident involving medical staff that leaked private information from Britney Spears’ files to the press. More than a dozen employees were fired or disciplined in that matter. Now, UCLA officials say they just fired another employee for snooping in Farrah Fawcett’s medical records. There are two things about hearing that Farrah Fawcett’s cancer had returned that really set me off and both involve the press (more accurately, the tabloid press).
