Saturday’s Storms

I awoke Saturday morning about 8:30 a.m. to lightning, thunder, and incredibly heavy rain. It was raining so hard, that the noise made it difficult to hear my husband speaking. It let up enough to hear, but it continued to pour. Soon, there was about 6” of standing water in our yard, and what my five year old dubbed “our river” rushing down toward the road. My Mold Story

Next week will mark the one-year anniversary of the flood that ravaged our home. We were displaced for more than a week. When we returned we were met with drenched carpeting, thick mud, and debris everywhere. I still cringe thinking about it. While the initial clean up was tedious and costly, it was the mold problem that followed which was even more dreadful. Honestly, it was a huge mess. Flooding is an emergency that can be fairly common. Usually flooding occurs as the result of another type of disaster, such as a severe thunderstorm, hurricane or tropical storm or a damn or levee breaking. Depending on the cause of the flood you may be given a short amount of warning time to prepare for the flood.
