Charitable Celebrities Bring Hope To Sick Children and Sick Celebrity Works On Getting Well

CHARTIABLE CELEBRITIES Who knew a love story about an accident-prone penguin keeper and an “everyman” could serve as the catalyst to aid sick children? Hard to believe, but it happened this week at a Knoxville, Tennessee movie theater. That’s where hundreds of fans gathered to greet Jessica Alba and Dane Cook during a screening of their new movie “Good Luck Chuck.” Local residents paid $75 a piece to see the actors and attend the screening of the new comedy, which opens to the general public today. The fundraiser raised $260,000 for Variety of Eastern Tennessee, a charity benefiting children with … Continue reading

Joel Siegel Dies

Did you see the tribute ABC did to Joel Siegel this morning? It made me tear up even though I had seen most of the footage when it aired last night on 20/20. For those of you who are having a hard time placing the name, Joel Siegel was Good Morning America’s longtime film critic and former WABC entertainment correspondent. He died Friday after a decade-long battle with cancer. He was 63. His friends and colleagues at ABC called him a “brilliant reviewer” and a “great reporter.” Diane Sawyer called him a “gladiator” and Charlie Gibson referred to Siegel as … Continue reading

Injured Journalist Returns To TV

Mornings are hectic around our house so it is virtually unheard of for me to make an a.m. date with the television. But, tomorrow I will be making an exception. I am anxious to see ABC newsman Bob Woodruff’s return to television. I have been following Woodruff’s recovery for months. In January, the former “World News Tonight” anchor and his photographer Doug Vogt were standing in the hatch of an Iraqi mechanized vehicle, reporting on the war from the Iraqi troops’ perspective, when a roadside bomb exploded and tore off part of Woodruff’s skull. Now, more than a year after … Continue reading

Charlie Gibson’s Good Bye Party

Joan Lunden will be there, old favorite David Hartman, Diane Sawyer (of course) and some “surprise guests.” The gang is coming together tomorrow to wish Charlie Gibson well as he departs from the anchor desk at ABC’s “Good Morning America.” But don’t expect Wednesday’s farewell block party to be anything like the pull-out-all-the-stops-and-don’t-forget-the-Kleenex extravaganza that NBC threw Katie Couric when she departed from the Today show in May. Why? Well, first of all, Gibson is not really going anywhere. He is merely changing time slots from mornings to evenings. A few months ago Gibson was named primary anchor for ABC’s … Continue reading
