Wednesday Widgets: TV Forecast

Spending too much time at the computer and not enough time watching TV? Well this week’s handy little widget can help remedy that problem. There are very few shows that I watch on a regular basis, partly because I don’t want to get so involved in the story lines when I’m not sure if I will be able to catch the next episode that follows the cliffhanger. It used to be that television shows would follow in order, a new episode every week until the hiatus in the summer. Well, that hiatus is still there, but the shows are no … Continue reading

For the Pet Moms: Happy Mother’s Day

Actually, I’m not trying to be discriminatory. Happy Mother’s Day to all moms! It’s just that some people turn their noses up at, or take offense to, women like myself who treat their pets like kids and consider themselves moms nonetheless. In years past, I have had people balk when we get to talking about how our husbands celebrated us on Mother’s Day. “Wayne gave you a card? He made you breakfast in bed? He took you out for a nice dinner? Why? You guys don’t have any kids.” No, I don’t have kids. Well, what I mean to say … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review May 6 – 12

Sometimes the weeks seem to fly by too fast and it’s hard to keep track of everything we have going on from day to day. Today is Mother’s Day and we’re almost halfway through May. How can we be halfway through May? How can there just be nine days left on the school year? How are we going to balance life and the changes that summer brings? Well, let’s get started by taking a glance back at the week behind us in case you missed any of our marriage articles this week. Sunday, May 6 Getting married soon, you might … Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day!

Hey, Moms! Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you aren’t doing a darned thing. I hope you’re kicking back with your feet up, taking advantage of this one special day that’s just for you. It’s okay to be self-indulgent today; it’s your day. Don’t do dishes, don’t you cook, don’t lift a finger today. If you’re a single mom, hit McDonald’s if you can’t afford to go for a sit down dinner, but definitely avoid your kitchen at all costs. Moms with big kids, spouses, or significant others, sit down. Somebody else can do all the stuff you usually do, and … Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day

Is it really Sunday? I’m exhausted today. I’ve got a ton of work to do and all these end of the year functions going on with our daughter. (Excuse me, I have to giggle over the thought of saying I have ‘functions’ to attend, but I do). Today is Mother’s Day and it’s a day that we honor the mothers in our lives. I like this day, of course, I’m a mom now and even though I’ve been a mom for years and I still have a hard time remembering that today is Mother’s Day. First Thing This Morning I … Continue reading

Celebrity Moms Celebrating Their First Mother’s Day

Hollywood’s baby boom really exploded during the first few months of 2007, which means tomorrow will be an extra special day for many first time celebrity moms. In honor of Mother’s Day I’ve compiled a list of some of Hollywood’s brightest female stars who are now new moms—some were just inducted into this wonderful sorority less than 48 hours ago: Jaime Pressly of “My Name is Earl” fame and her deejay fiancé, Eric Cubiche, welcomed a baby boy, Dezi James, just yesterday. The infant weighed in at 6 lbs. 4 oz. The actress told PEOPLE magazine her son’s name was … Continue reading

Mother’s Day Fitness: Consider Making Mom Your Workout Partner

I know, it may sound crazy and a few years ago, I wouldn’t have been espousing this particular suggestion. For years, my mother and I were not particularly close. My grandmother had been a fundamentally strong influence in my life and in many ways, she was every bit as much a mother to me. But over the last few years since my grandmother passed away, my mother and I have grown closer. I think my daughter’s existence has contributed to this stronger relationship. Mom as a Workout Partner Anyway, as I was saying before I took off on my verbal … Continue reading

Mother’s Day Romance

You may not think Mother’s Day is a day for romance, but I actually think it’s a fantastic opportunity for Dad’s everywhere to appreciate their wives. Celebrating our mothers or being celebrated for our motherhood is wonderful, but being remembered as wives and women is a lot sexier. Mothers are Women Every mother is a woman. She was once a little girl, she became a teenager a young woman and she even became a blushing bride. When she became a mother and a wife, she never stopped being a woman. It may surprise some men to hear this, but even … Continue reading

A Muffin for Mother’s Day

This is a blog for dads. If you’re a mom you can’t read it. E-mail it to your husband or just print it (without looking at it) and leave it for him to find. (For my husband this would need to be left on the laptop or the remote control.) Again, moms: DO NOT READ THIS BLOG. So dads, now that we’ve gotten rid of the moms, let’s talk about breakfast on Mother’s Day morning. I’m not a huge breakfast in bed fan, (the grandeur is lost when I’m cleaning crumbs out of bed that evening) but I definitely appreciate … Continue reading

Mother’s Day Fun

My Mother’s Days have changed a lot in the thirteen years I’ve been a mom. At first – getting a break from the baby was the best present of all. I remember taking a long hot shower, luxuriating in a cup of coffee, browsing at the library, and taking a walk all by myself. Nowadays, I like to spend at least part of the day with my family. I like to do something that is fun for all of us, but I also like to stretch their horizons a little. So I don’t pick things like putt-putt or an arcade … Continue reading
