Wow! Is it June already? It will be tomorrow, and that means school is out or soon will be, and the first day of summer is sneaking up on us. The Title of Mother

Yesterday was mother’s day and I hope all of you mothers out there had an enjoyable day. I was discussing mother’s day with my six-year-old son and he informed me that I didn’t need presents because as a mother the only thing I really needed was my family, kisses, and hugs. (Although he did give me a paving stone that he made in his first grade class and a card.) His comment, startling in its simplicity made me think about what I really want as a mother. He is right, the trimmery and trappings don’t really matter. What every mother … Continue reading

A Wolf For Mother’s Day

Today my husband made me breakfast. Not in bed, mind you, but breakfast just the same, thoughtfully planned out and prepared just for me. He wanted to serve it to me in bed but I ruined the surprise by popping out of the bedroom just before it was ready to be eaten. Our morning was filled with the usual happenings of daily life – we ate, we watched a little TV, we stopped the kids from fighting one, two, heck, countless times, and we enjoyed the hours until he left for work. For my gift, I was expecting something handmade. … Continue reading

Happy Mothers Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers around the globe. This day was set aside in America in 1915 as an official holiday to honor mothers and all we do for our families. The story of how Mother’s day began starts with a daughter named Anna Jarvis. “Anna’s mother had provided strength and support as the family made their home in West Virginia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her father served as a minister. As a girl, Anna helped her mother take care of her garden that was mostly filled with white carnations. When Mrs. Jarvis died on May 5, 1905, … Continue reading

Happy Mother’s Day to All Moms

Good morning! Happy Mother’s Day! I wanted to take a few minutes today and share some personal thoughts about Mother’s Day and what it means to me. Growing up, the two primary influences in my life were my mother and my grandmother. I never knew my father and many of my friends growing up were either in the same boat as I; or they saw their fathers very rarely. While I know today is Mother’s Day and a day that we honor and celebrate our mothers, grandmothers and more – I wanted to take a moment to be grateful that … Continue reading

Honor thy Mother

Last month, I talked about the fact that we needed to Honor Thy Mother this month as a part of the celebration of motherhood. We should honor the gifts they have given us – our bodies and our selves. Over and over again, I have stressed here that taking care of yourself is about your whole family. With today being Mother’s Day – today is a great day to remember that. When you go out to eat or prepare your meal tonight – choose from a healthy selection of foods. Instead of fried, go for grilled. Choose leaner meat such … Continue reading
