Harvest Party

As usual, our church did a fantastic job throwing the Harvest Party. Kids, from the biggest to the smallest, had a great time. So did most of the parents. It started with “trunk or treat” in the parking lot, and once inside the Family Center (complete with restaurant kitchen and gymnasium) the real party started. While the party is intended for small children, the entire family is invited and may participate in activities, from games, a hayride, a puppet show, and door prizes, to the much-anticipated cakewalk. People from church bake their best goodies to give as prizes. Everyone ends … Continue reading

Costume Tips

Do you make costumes for your children? I have made my children’s costumes many times, except for the two years that I gave birth in October. We’ve had everything from tigers to Teletubbies. As our family expanded, I began opting for quicker, easier ideas and things I could pull together rather than creating from scratch. To get started, you may want to walk through your favorite store and take a look at the costume section. You might get inspired, and you’ll … Continue reading

Make Pumpkin Pals!

Okay, so you’re not big on breaking out the butcher knife to carve a pumpkin and you don’t feel like dealing the messy insides. Who can blame you? This is especially true if your kids are really little. Still, you want them to have fun and enjoy some holiday decorating. Just make pumpkin pals instead of regular jack-o-lanterns. Instead of carving pumpkins, pick up some in different sizes. Let your kids draw faces with indelible marker or paint pens, or paint on faces with washable craft paint. It might still get a little messy, but if you spread out some … Continue reading
