Cool Cruise Deals to Paradise

Regular readers of this blog know that I track travel deals to Hawaii very carefully. And with the recent demise of Aloha Airlines and the skyrocketing price of fuel, bargains to paradise are relatively non-existent. So when I was notified of this next cruise deal to the Pearls of the Pacific my jaw dropped. Some of the Aloha State sailings reflect savings of nearly 50%. Take a look: NORWEGIAN This early-bird special offered by Orbitz is a real steal. It takes place aboard Norwegian’s Pride of America and sets sail in December 2009. The seven-night voyage departs round trip from … Continue reading

Dumbest Celebrity Quotes…Ever!

As you probably can tell, I love celebrities. In my mind, they are superhuman. They wake up looking beautiful (yes, deep down I know they wake up looking shabby just like I do), they are always taller than they really are, and they are always intelligent. Well, that is until they open their mouths. Here are a few of the dumbest quotes ever uttered out of a celeb mouth: Blondes will be blondes, even if they are fake: Britney Spears – “I get to go overseas place, like Canada” Jessica Simpson – “Is this chicken what I have, or is … Continue reading

Shaq Files For Divorce

Was it all about the Benjamins? Whatever the reason Shaquille O’Neal has decided his marriage to wife Shaunie is “irretrievably broken.” According to court documents, the basketball star filed for divorce from his wife in Miami yesterday after nearly five years of marriage and four children together. The Miami Herald is reporting that the couple has a prenuptial agreement. What’s more, the newspaper reveals that a clue to the break up may be contained in the court documents. One request in the divorce petition says Shaunie has been “secretive about her assets … particularly with respect to certain properties owned … Continue reading

Harrison Ford Is In Hilo

That’s right; Indiana Jones is in Hilo, Hawaii. The place I was born and raised. Unfortunately, I’m 5,000 miles away from my childhood home, but I am thrilled for my family and friends (and the rest of the residents of our sleepy town) who get the privilege of meeting (maybe) the award-winning actor while he films scenes from the latest Indy adventure. (Producer George Lucas and director Steven Spielberg has not released the title of the film, scheduled for release May 22, 2008.) Word has it the actor, who turned 65 yesterday (producers say he still fits into Indiana Jones’ … Continue reading

Hilo’s Hot Spots

I’ve made it no secret that I was born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, but as I review the hundreds of travel blogs I’ve written I noticed I haven’t done many on my hometown. That said, I’ve decided to devote at least one blog a week detailing Hilo’s hot spots. Those of you who have visited Hilo may be chuckling. After all, Hilo isn’t exactly the tourist capital of the state… or even of the Big Island, but that’s part of what makes it so charming. Hilo is the seat of the government on the Big Island and the home … Continue reading

Shaq Takes A Shot At Helping Overweight Kids

Perhaps, Ruben Studdard was too busy… ABC is hoping for a slam-dunk when it airs a new reality TV series starring NBA All-Star Shaquille O’Neal aiding overweight children. According to network execs, the show will focus on childhood obesity and health. The series, which will run during the summer months, will feature the Miami Heat star and his effort to help Florida schoolchildren lose weight. Show producers say the series is currently being filmed in Broward County, Florida and tracks the lives of the children involved. O’Neal will reportedly be on hand to support the children and (in episodes yet … Continue reading

Tsunami Museum

My mom was just an infant when a deadly tsunami obliterated her hometown of Hilo, Hawaii back in 1946. The massive wave killed 159 people, but spared thousands of others, including my mother and my grandparents. In the decades following the incredible natural disaster, the city has been rebuilt and is prospering. However, the memory of what occurred in the early morning hours of April 1, 1946 will live in perpetuity thanks in part to the creation of the Pacific Tsunami Museum located in exact location where the tidal wave hit. The museum is one of the Big Island’s most … Continue reading
