Hot Hawaiian Travel Deals: Luaus and Love

It’s been a while, but it appears the traditional Hawaiian luau is headed back to Waikiki Beach. The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa located near downtown Honolulu on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu recently announced that it is resurrecting the traditional local feast on the shores of the world’s most famous beach. The “Waikiki Lu’au on the Lagoon” is being offered twice weekly, on Sundays and Wednesdays. It includes a lei greeting, traditional luau meal and a Polynesian entertainment extravaganza. Beginning just before sunset guests will be greeted with live Hawaiian music and a flower lei on the … Continue reading

Cool Cruise Deals to Paradise

Regular readers of this blog know that I track travel deals to Hawaii very carefully. And with the recent demise of Aloha Airlines and the skyrocketing price of fuel, bargains to paradise are relatively non-existent. So when I was notified of this next cruise deal to the Pearls of the Pacific my jaw dropped. Some of the Aloha State sailings reflect savings of nearly 50%. Take a look: NORWEGIAN This early-bird special offered by Orbitz is a real steal. It takes place aboard Norwegian’s Pride of America and sets sail in December 2009. The seven-night voyage departs round trip from … Continue reading

Celebrating the Fourth in Hawaii

Despite what you might think we do celebrate with fireworks, BBQ’s, and parades just like the rest of the country. Spending Independence Day in the 50th state is a dream come true for most folks, and as someone who was born and raised there I must admit there are quiet a few tourists that time their Hawaiian vacations to coincide with Fourth of July celebrations… and rarely are they disappointed with their decision to do so. This year Waikoloa Beach Resort is once again hosting the Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race. The annual Fourth of July festival has been going … Continue reading

A Taste of Paradise Where You’d Least Expect It

If you have the money to travel to London then you probably don’t have to dig deep to afford a drink of water. Unless that water is harvested in Hawaii and you’re staying at the historic five-star Claridge’s of London hotel. The upscale property is now offering a taste of paradise to its most discriminating clientele (British royals and European nobility often frequent the hotel). Claridge’s execs say they just added MaHaLo Hawaii Deep Sea Water to their water menu, which features 30 of the world’s finest waters. According to hotel managers, MaHaLo Hawaii Deep Sea Water is harvested 3,000 … Continue reading

Affordable Accommodations in Hawaii

It might sound hard to believe considering a mere ticket to paradise can often cause serious damage to your credit score, but there are ways to save on lodging expenses when visiting the Aloha State. Okay, so it might not be as cheap as staying with your parents in their oceanfront home, but the following options are worth checking out: OAHU Home to Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, and the world famous North Shore, Oahu is quintessential Hawaii and the most populated (See: crowded) of all the Hawaiian Islands. To save money stay away from pricey Waikiki and head to the Manoa … Continue reading

Go Wild on Valentine’s Day

I’m a sucker for holidays… even the ones greeting card companies invent simply to boost sales. So it should come as no surprise that I found the following travel deal irresistible. The title alone grabbed my attention. Then again, it could be because my 3-year-old is wild about animals and our local zoo is closed until March. If you live or visit areas in warmer climates you don’t have to deal with seasonal closings, which is why places like the Honolulu Zoo can host clever events such as “Love Gone Wild” just in time for Valentine’s Day. Animal magnetism takes … Continue reading

Celebrating Chinese New Year in Hawaii

Maybe it’s because I was born in Hawaii. Or, perhaps, it’s because I was born in the Year of the Rat. Either way I can’t think of any place else I would rather celebrate Chinese New Year than in Honolulu. The Year of the Rat doesn’t officially start until February 7th, but the party is already underway in Honolulu’s Chinatown. The “Month in Chinatown” cultural celebration kicked off tonight. Take a look at all of the FREE events open to the public and then click on the links I’ve provided below to read more about the place where tourists and … Continue reading

Celebrating the Holidays in Hawaii

Contrary to popular belief we really do celebrate the holidays in Hawaii. Of course, if you are one of those people who simply can’t celebrate without sub-zero wind chills, snow, ice, and frozen fingers then you might not want to travel to the Aloha State during December. However, if you prefer to take in holiday-themed activities minus the layers, gloves, hats, boots and hand warmers then Hawaii is waiting for you. Most travelers don’t realize that the city of Honolulu consistently ranks among the Top 20 American cities for holiday light displays. The granddaddy of the state’s light festivals takes … Continue reading
