An Unbelievable Error

I just read the most incredible story; I can’t believe it’s true. Apparently a few years ago, at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina, a women came into the hospital asking for a cesarean section. The doctors unsuccessfully attempted to induce labor. They then unsuccessfully tried to do a cesarean. That is, the cesarean would have been successful if the women was actually pregnant. You’re probably thinking this is an April Fools joke, but I assure you, it is not.http://blogs.families.com/admin/b2edit.php?blog=31 The woman in question was suffering from a condition called pseudocyesis, a disorder, which I’ve written … Continue reading

In the News: Wedding Gift Disaster

In this case, it’s a real disaster that was sparked by a wedding gift. An Alaskan wildfire that has blackened over 86 miles of the Kenai Peninsula and destroyed 88 cabins and homes in the area. How? Because a couple were breaking ground to build a cabin for their son and his soon-to-be wife. Apparently, sparks from a shovel grinding against the dirt to begin breaking the ground for the foundation ignited dry grass. The fire began on June 19th. The bride’s mother donated the land and the groom’s parents were going to build the couple a cabin on it. … Continue reading

In the News: Gay Marriage Issues Still in the News

Massachusetts Governor Orders Record of Gay Marriages Yep, I’m sure I’ll light a few fires today, but here it goes – the Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick has ordered the recording of 26 out of state gay couples who came to Massachusetts to get married. These marriages will not be recognized by their home states and that is part of the reason former Governor Mitt Romney blocked them. As you may or may not know, Massachusetts is the only state that allows gay marriage and while several states offer civil unions, most ban gay marriage specifically. Since the State’s Supreme … Continue reading

Every once in a while, I read a news story that leaves my mouth hanging open. I’ve focused the last several days on romance, letters of love, love notes and even love letters. I was a bit loath to write about this topic, but I let it sit for a couple of days and I need to put some thoughts out here with regard to this news story that showed up in my news alerts. Legal Recognition, Clauses and More As you may be aware, the marriage debates have raged from one end of the country to the other. In … Continue reading

Only about 15 states recognize common law marriage and Texas is one of them. Challenging the Law The laws are being challenged by a mother in Oregon who wants her son’s remains to be returned to Oregon for burial. His common law wife wants him to be buried near her … Continue reading

While this issue continues to vex and frustrate supporters on both sides of the issue. In the News: Women Have Choices, Men Apparently Don’t

This is a difficult topic for me to write on and I ask for your patience as I try to explore it in all fairness. Today, I read an article about new legislation that was passed in the state of Michigan. House Bill 5882 puts into effect the Coercive Abortion Prevention Act. This law, for me, takes an ethically gray area and potentially explosive atmosphere and makes it a thousand times more dangerous. So what does this law do? The purpose of the law is to prevent and prohibit the putative father of a pregnant woman’s baby from intimidating or … Continue reading
