Marriage Laws: Ohio & Indiana

As we continue our journey through the United States, we head to Ohio and Indiana. I’ve not spent a lot of time in either state, but let’s take a look at their requirements for a marriage license. Ohio Ohio has no residency requirement. If you are a resident, you must apply in the county where you live. If you are not a resident, you must apply in the county where you want to get married. You need proof of ID and a certified copy of the death certificate or divorce decree if you were married previously. There is no waiting … Continue reading

Indianapolis—Where To Stay

In a previous blog I gave you a rundown of our travel itinerary for our upcoming trip to Indianapolis. Since we are attending a wedding there we will be taking advantage of the special room rates offered to guests attending the nuptials. (See details below.) However, if you are visiting the city and are looking for unique accommodations you might want to consider the following inns and hotels. A Weekend In Indianapolis

In a few weeks we will pack up the family car and head to Indianapolis for a friend’s wedding. I’ve been to the area several times, but never with a toddler, so this trip should be interesting. I’ve been doing research on the city’s family-friendly attractions, and if all goes according to plan we will roll into Indianapolis with enough time to visit a few of them before the wedding festivities get underway. Our plan is to spend four days in Indianapolis—though two of them will be spent participating in wedding-related events. The other two days we plan to visit … Continue reading

In the News: Gay Marriage Issues Still in the News

Massachusetts Governor Orders Record of Gay Marriages Yep, I’m sure I’ll light a few fires today, but here it goes – the Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick has ordered the recording of 26 out of state gay couples who came to Massachusetts to get married. These marriages will not be recognized by their home states and that is part of the reason former Governor Mitt Romney blocked them. As you may or may not know, Massachusetts is the only state that allows gay marriage and while several states offer civil unions, most ban gay marriage specifically. Since the State’s Supreme … Continue reading

A Girl of the Limberlost — Gene Stratton Porter

“A Girl of the Limberlost” is the first Gene Stratton Porter book I ever had the privilege to read, and it certainly wasn’t the last. Elnora Comstock’s father passed away years ago, leaving her behind with her heartsick mother, Kate. Kate’s grief has turned into cold, sullen anger, and Elnora has never really been shown kindness from her mother. She has friends on a neighboring farm, but it’s not the same as her mother’s love. High school is just around the corner, and Elnora needs money for books. It’s an added expense her mother wasn’t prepared for, and she refuses … Continue reading
