John Edwards: Fitness Machine

At least that’s what he considers himself to be. In a previous blog I detailed the fitness routines of politicians, who hoped to one day live in the White House. Presidential hopeful Barack Obama lifts weights daily while potential John McCain running mate Mitt Romney is said to be an avid runner. Another politician with a passion for running is former North Carolina senator John Edwards. The 55-year-old father of four has been running for almost 30 years and has finished five marathons—-one of them, in 1983, in just over three-and-a-half hours (impressive by all accounts). However, rather than let … Continue reading

The Race for President

Not for the White House, but to the White House… from say… New York. Which of the candidates do you think would win? Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama considers himself to be a fitness fanatic. The rail-thin senator from Illinois is a self-proclaimed basketball nut, who enjoys daily runs. According to his website, the 6’1” former high school (and briefly in college) basketball team member plays a game of hoops with staff members everyday, in addition to lifting weights. Meanwhile, potential John McCain running mate Mitt Romney is said to be an avid runner as well, logging about 3 miles … Continue reading

What Makes Politicians Think They’ll Never Get Caught?

Or, that if they do, we should be understanding and tolerant of their moment of weakness? I’m referring to John Edwards’s admission that he cheated on his wife Elizabeth. “In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic.” ~-John Edwards, as quoted from an article by Pete Yost, AP, published on AOL News-~ Apparently he confessed the whole mess to Elizabeth and the rest of his family long before it came out in the media. But now it’s out. Now not only him, but also Elizabeth, have to face … Continue reading

John Edwards and Victoria Osteen – Tarnished Images?

This week, two high profile people appeared in new articles for not so stellar behavior. Former senator and vice presidential hopeful John Edwards finally admitted to having an extramarital affair. The National Enquirer broke this story quite a while ago, but I wanted to think it was just tabloid fluff. But, they got it right this time. Edwards admitted to having an affair with film maker Rielle Hunter in 2006, but denied being the father of her child, despite not having taken a paternity test yet. His former aide, Andrew Young, has said he is the father of the child. … Continue reading

How Is It Politicians Have So Much Time to Cheat?

I was very disappointed to hear yesterday that John Edwards admitted to having an affair on his wife, Elizabeth. Worse, he did it when she was in the midst of battling cancer. It was just a few months ago when another such scandal forced the then governor of New York, Eliot Spitzer, out of office. Edwards isn’t going to face anything like that, but I think he can pretty much forget Obama naming him as his choice for vice-presidential running mate. I happen to like John Edwards, so I’m really disappointed to hear he’s joined the ranks of cheating politician … Continue reading
