Heritage Scrapbooking: Finding Products

Once you have taken the time to sort through and organize all of your heritage photos and memorabilia, you are then ready to put the items into a meaningful scrapbook. I have done some searching to find a nice selection of heritage paper and embellishments that would work well with your heritage albums. Karen Foster Designs has a nice assortment of patterned paper that would enhance your albums. I especially like the family group sheet and photo pedigree papers. These would make a nice introduction page to an album documenting the lives of the people listed on these pages. Karen … Continue reading

Scrapping Christmas Past

If my mother had her way digital scrapbooking would be something you’d only see in the movies or on TV like… Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Needless to say, my mom has not exactly embraced advances in the world of scrapbooking, especially if they involve technology. She is old school all the way. Really old school; as in early 1900’s old school. My mom is a huge fan of vintage scrapbooking. In fact, she is currently working on a Christmas-themed heritage album. Whereas she is not filling the pages with photos of my great-great grandparents, she is using a … Continue reading

Autumn-Inspired Layouts

The interior of my local scrapbook store looks as though a giant sneezed on an oak tree filled with the colors of fall. Leaf-print paper, stickers, stamps and die cuts in orange, yellow and burnt sienna are all over the place. I went into the shop looking for a good deal on back-to-school-themed embellishments and was nearly buried under the mountains of autumn-themed paper. Granted, paper with red, yellow, and orange leaves are very versatile. You can add them to page designs featuring a gorgeous fall nature hike, a day of raking, a family trip to the apple orchard, as … Continue reading

Old School Scrapping

Ever since she saw The Smurfs in 3D this summer, my young daughter has been begging to view old school cartoons. My brother (bless him) has been busy sending her DVDS of the Snorks, Super Friends (hello Justice League of America!) and Heathcliff. I wanted to create a scrapbook layout documenting my daughter’s new obsession, but I can’t find anything more than sparse clip art featuring most of her new video friends. When I told my mom that I wanted to make an “old school” page design she suggested I draw pictures of the Snorks on cardstock, sand the finished … Continue reading

Fall Scrapping

I love fall. The leaves are gorgeous, the weather is mild and the layout ideas for scrapping are practically limitless. In addition to major events, such as the first day of school, Halloween and Thanksgiving, fall brings with it a myriad of other memorable moments that are prime for scrapping, including fall foliage tours, apple picking, pumpkin picking, and autumnal nature walks. All of the aforementioned activities are frame worthy, plus they also yield amazing mementos that can be incorporated into your layouts. For example, a nature walk page design can include pressed leaves that you find along a trail, … Continue reading

Things to Remember, Things to Forget

I often feel like my recall ability is sub-par. I tend to remember general feelings, rather than specific conversations. Some events stand out in my mind while others fade away. My brother is often amazing me by recalling the most random things from our childhood — down to details like what we were wearing and what we ate for dinner. Let’s face it: your brain is loaded down with a lot of information. The stuff you need the most — directions to the store or your ATM code, for example — needs to stay with you. Other things can be … Continue reading

Your Family Legacy Website Review

Preserving our own history is one important reason why many people begin scrapbooking. But not only do we want to preserve our own lives, but also many of us have the desire to piece together information from our ancestors into albums. I have recently come across a helpful website, Your Family Legacy, that you can use a resource for both purchasing items for use in completing your ancestral pages and they have an excellent list of informative articles that you may find helpful in giving you ideas for your historical pages. I would like to share some of my favorite … Continue reading
