Hurricane Katrina was the worst natural disaster the insurance industry has ever managed. The number of claims exceeds the previous record of more than two million made to cover losses in 2004 from the four Florida storms. There has been a great deal of press coverage about the way Insurance companies have handled claims. Home and Family: The Aftermath of Katrina

It’s been a year since Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast and left a wake of destruction. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to live through that storm and to lose everything in moments. Some people even lost people they love. One of the saddest things for me is the fact that as of reports this spring, over 800 people are still missing. Pre K Classmates Help Katrina Victim

Some pre school children in Montclair New Jersey have found a really nice way to support a classmate who lost his home during Hurricane Katrina. They wrote a book about him, and are selling it to benefit his family. Last year, a little boy named Nigel came to New Jersey as part of the relocation from the disaster that destroyed his home in New Orleans. He was enrolled in the Montclair Community Pre K class, and made friends very fast. Review: Extreme Makeover Home Edition

ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition airs on Sunday evenings, at 8:00 (7:00 Central), but this week on the special Thursday episode, the team visited Biloxi, Mississippi, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Even now, more than six months later, the nightmare those people are living is still in evidence. The views shown during Monday’s episode were just shocking.
