Celebrity Splits – April 2010

There must be something in the water in Hollywood as several celebrity separations were announced this week. Larry King filed for divorce from wife Shawn on Wednesday. By now, the 76-year-old talk show host should be used to the paperwork – Shawn was his seventh wife. The two have been married for 12 1/2 years and have two children. Rumors of infidelity on Shawn’s part had been circulating for a while in the tabloids. But, is the marriage really over? TMZ reported that King and Shawn were seen together at their son’s baseball game. Could a reconciliation be in the … Continue reading

Twittermania

Okay, call me old, but I am just not into Twitter. Oh sure, I am on there (http://twitter.com/lpelham), but I already have MySpace and Facebook and I usually update my statuses there, why bother with Twitter? And seeing everyone else’s updates like that just seems a bit manic. But, it appears I am alone in not twitting as the rest of the world seems to be in love with it. I blogged a while back about singer Erykah Badu’s childbirth being twitted online, play by play. Now, a Twitter battle is on. Ashton Kutcher is hoping to beat CNN to … Continue reading

Is CBS Cutting Couric?

Even if that were their plan they certainly wouldn’t spin it that way. Instead, the brass at the eye network would make it appear to viewers that Katie Couric herself made the decision to leave her cushy anchor job for greener pastures. Enter the Wall Street Journal. The paper recently ran an article in which it quotes CBS News executives and a select group of Couric’s inner circle saying what insiders predicted was bound to happen sooner rather than later: The former “Today” show host is expected to leave her post at CBS Evening News shortly after the January 2009 … Continue reading

Turkeys and an Olive Branch

TURKEYS He’s no longer around to personally hand out the holiday birds, but a Thanksgiving tradition the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown started more than a decade ago is still going strong. Brown died of heart failure last Christmas, but today his program, designed to help those less fortunate, kicked off with great success. Brown’s longtime friend and civil rights activist Al Sharpton was on hand in the late singer’s hometown of Augusta, Georgia to hand out the first turkey of the season. The legendary entertainer started giving away free turkeys in 1991 and since then event organizers say more … Continue reading

It has been a tough year for Marie Osmond. She is on this year’s “Dancing with the Stars,” but she fainted on air. Then her father died. Now, it has been announced that her teenage son Michael has checked into rehab. Marie made the announcement herself on Larry King’s show Wednesday night. Her brother Donny was at her side for the Larry King interview and helped her maintain her composure during the show. She said 16-year-old Michael is seeking treatment, but did not say what substance issue he had. She said, “My son was put into a rehab… My son … Continue reading

Why Rosie Won’t Be Taking On Larry King

Isn’t it ironic? For months the peacock network has been courting Rosie O’Donnell for a possible primetime talk show to air on MSNBC. Then, less than a day after the acerbic comedian blabbed to the media about the pending deal, NBC pulled the plug on its offer. O’Donnell was spurned for speaking out of turn, but later laughed off the incident when speaking about NBC’s decision on her website. “Listen, I’m too old!” O’Donnell said with a chuckle. “When you’re young, you do those things. ‘Yes, I won’t tell anyone! Lock me in the NBC vault!’ ” So, here’s the … Continue reading

Reading Between The Lines

My best friend called me from Hawaii last night and before we hung up she asked me what I thought about Paris Hilton’s appearance on CNN. I told her to read my blog. (Just kidding.) Actually, our discussion focused more about how much the 26-year-old millionairess went on about how “rough” she had it behind bars. According to the socialite, prison food stunk, she was traumatized by the fact she couldn’t hug her family members because of that darn glass partition, and she was sooooo cold it was almost unbearable. My friend’s take on Hilton’s situation went something like this: … Continue reading

The Post Mortem On Paris’ Interview

Did you happen to catch Paris Hilton’s first words as a free woman? I saw bits of pieces of her taped piece while I was getting my daughter ready for bed. The CNN interview (her first broadcast interview since leaving jail Tuesday) was conducted by Larry King and was just as I figured it would be—filled with awkward pauses as the heir-head–I mean heiress–collected her thoughts and tried to put them into words. If you missed the interview, which detailed the socialite’s 23 days behind bars here’s a sampling of what you would have heard: According to Paris, being locked … Continue reading

Paris Postscript

Well, you didn’t expect her to go on Larry King looking like she just spent 23 in jail did you? Oh wait. That is the reason Paris Hilton is appearing on the CNN show tonight. It’s been more than 24 hours since the hotel heiress strutted out of the Century Regional Detention Facility wearing tight jeans and $300 stilettos. Twenty-four hours later and any hope that the party princess had a major ego adjustment as a result of her time behind bars seems to be fading. The first sign that the celebutante’s stay in the slammer hasn’t readjusted her priorities—the … Continue reading

Princess Paris On King

Okay all you Paris Hilton fans… ready your TiVo’s for Wednesday night. According to the hotel heiress herself, that’s when she will appear live on CNN’s “Larry King Live” for her first post-jail interview. CNN confirmed the socialite’s appearance and said that she will be on for the entire hour. The news comes less than 24 hours after both NBC (the network that had originally booked Hilton’s first post-jail interview) and ABC pulled out of talks with the incarcerated blonde. Both networks were reportedly embarrassed by reports that they were willing to pay the Hilton family for materials related to … Continue reading
