A recent study funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation took a look at the connection between medical bills and bankruptcies in the United States. The results at a glance: More than 62 percent of bankruptcies in 2007 were related to medical bills. This is an increase of approximately fifty percent since 2001. More than three-quarters of families who declared bankruptcy due to medical bills DID HAVE health insurance but were still overwhelmed by medical debt. Hospital Indigent Funds

I spent a good portion of yesterday morning in the Emergency Room. While scrubbing out a pot that I’d boiled linguini noodles in, I jammed a dried noodle in between the nail and the thumb. It went all the way to the quick. I tried pulling it out which only broke it off, then soaking it to make it flexible (no go), and sucking it out (extremely painful, no positive result).
