Celebrity Splits – April 2010

There must be something in the water in Hollywood as several celebrity separations were announced this week. Larry King filed for divorce from wife Shawn on Wednesday. By now, the 76-year-old talk show host should be used to the paperwork – Shawn was his seventh wife. The two have been married for 12 1/2 years and have two children. Rumors of infidelity on Shawn’s part had been circulating for a while in the tabloids. But, is the marriage really over? TMZ reported that King and Shawn were seen together at their son’s baseball game. Could a reconciliation be in the … Continue reading

Sins of the Father—Mel Gibson Has a Meltdown

It looks as though Mel Gibson may have a conscience after all. At least part of one, anyway. And it’s beginning to bother him. A lot. The father of seven (soon to be eight) reportedly went “ballistic” in church last Sunday. In what is being described as a “crazed rant,” the actor apparently lit into parishioners while pacing back and forth on the altar of Holy Family Chapel in Agoura Hills, California. I suppose having a meltdown on the altar (a place reserved exclusively for priests and altar servers) is one of the perks of building your own (purported) Catholic … Continue reading

Mel Gibson: The Truth Shall Set You Free

He may be the ultimate hypocrite, but at least he’s honest. Not that telling the truth will save him from eternal damnation… but who am I to judge? If you watched Mel Gibson’s “performance” on NBC’s “Tonight Show” earlier this week, there’s one thing you can’t deny the Hollywood mega-star—-he’s one heck of an actor. The 53-year-old “Lethal Weapon” star showed up clean-shaven, looking relaxed in jeans, a white shirt and a blue jacket. However, it didn’t take long before he became a fidgety, sweat-drenched mess. And well he should have been. After all, acting takes effort. Gibson’s performance began … Continue reading

Russian Pop Star Claims to be Mel Gibson’s Other Woman

And you thought divorces only affected the warring parties and their children… In an example of just how far-reaching Mel Gibson’s split has become, consider the impact it has had on a woman named Oksana Kolesnikova. The married Russian classical pianist was mistakenly cited by numerous publications as the woman responsible for causing the demise of Mel Gibson’s 28-year-old marriage to his wife Robyn. Only Kolesnikova has never met the movie star. Apparently, several media sources who printed Kolesnikova’s name only got half their facts right. The alleged “mystery woman” photographed canoodling with Gibson on a beach near his Costa … Continue reading

Signs a Marriage is in Trouble?

After 28 years of marriage, Mel Gibson and his wife Robyn are getting divorced and it seems everyone has an opinion about it. That comes with the price of being famous, I guess. But the truth is despite rumors and gossip, columnists and opinions of his fans, none of us know what their marriage was really like, any more than you really know want your next door neighbor’s marriage or marriages of friends or family are like. Similarly no-one really knows what your marriage is really like. Or do they? The reality is that we only see the tip of … Continue reading

Mel Gibson’s Wife Files for Divorce

Mel Gibson is on the road to being a swinging single again. Finally, his martial status will match his behavior. According to reports, Gibson’s wife, Robyn filed for divorce last Thursday. Interestingly, though, court documents show that the couple has been separated for three years, with Robyn moving out of the family home less than a month after Mel’s infamous DUI arrest/anti-Semitic rant incident. The actor’s issues with alcohol date back to 1984, when he was arrested for drunk driving in Toronto. Shortly after that public misstep Mel admitted that he had battled alcohol problems throughout his adult life, but … Continue reading

Magnum Ready to Rumba and Mel Ready to Rumble

Mystery solved. If you watch ABC during primetime you might have seen the commercials for the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars.” The new cast will not be revealed until August 25th, but the ads promise that the new celebrity hoofers will include a detective, a model, and a super star chef. The model could be any pretty face (who will likely be cut by week three) and some publications have already named Rachael Ray as the “super star chef” (though, I’d rather see Food Network’s Bobby Flay out there). As for the detective—-well, you didn’t need to pull … Continue reading

Iconic Sex Symbols – Part 1

The other day at 6:00 a.m. (I had to wake hubby up for work), I started watching the The Bounty. That is the recount of the HMS Bounty, a British ship that was overthrown by Fletcher Christian. Normally, when I turn the television on at 6:00 a.m., I immediately go back to sleep, but a young Mel Gibson is good enough reason to stay awake! That started me to thinking about iconic sex symbols – the men whose good looks will forever be frozen in time. Here are the ones I think were extremely hot in their heyday. Some died … Continue reading

Throwing His Hat into the Britney Ring…Ladies and Gentlemen, Mel Gibson

That is right! Mel “I am just now recovering myself from a brush with celebrity infamy” Gibson is now playing one of his strangest roles ever – as friend to Britney Spears. What could Mad Mel and the Pop Tart have in common? I don’t know but when they were spotted having dinner together this past weekend, sources tell People magazine that this is not the first time they have met. The source says, “Mel and his wife Robin clearly saw a woman in crisis and wanted to extend themselves in any way possible.” Lord knows Robin has had enough … Continue reading

Forever Young (1992)

“Forever Young” is one of my favorite romantic movies. Starring Mel Gibson, it really doesn’t get any more heart-melting than this. Daniel McCormick (Mel Gibson) is a test pilot in the year 1939. He’s deeply in love with his girlfriend, Helen, but can’t bring himself to get up the nerve to pop the question. She is hit by a bus and in a coma for six months, during which time Daniel nearly dies himself from grief. Seeking relief for his anguish, he talks to his good friend, scientist Harry Finley (George Wendt) about becoming a guinea pig for an experiment. … Continue reading
