In Memoriam – 2009 – Part 3

Before I could even finish my “In Memoriam” blog this year, we lost another celebrity – actress Brittany Murphy. The young actress died on December 20th after she was found unconscious in her bathroom. Her death was determined to be of natural causes, although the official cause of death has not yet been determined. Here are more celebrities that died in 2009: June 23 – Ed McMahon (86) The epitome of a great sidekick, McMahon sat alongside host Johnny Carson for 30 years. He also starred in “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes,” “Star Search,” and served as Jerry Lewis’ co-host … Continue reading

Michael Jackson Auction Brings in Big Bucks

If you saw the American Music Awards the other night, you know Michael Jackson is still wildly popular, perhaps more so since his recently death several months ago. He lost the Artist of the Year award to Taylor Swift, but he won Pop/Rock Favorite Male Artist, Pop/Rock Favorite Album (Number Ones), Soul/R&B Favorite Male Artist, and Soul/R&B Favorite Album (Number Ones). The day before the AMAs, some Jackson fans scored big by purchasing some of his personal possessions at an auction. Family members, associates, and fans contacted Julien’s Auctions about selling the merchandise. The auction, held at Hard Rock Café … Continue reading

Jon Gosselins Mantrums and Michael Jackson’s Millions

Not only does Jon Gosselin have soon to be ex-wife problems (with his babies mama Kate), but he also apparently has current girlfriend problems. Hailey Glassman, the daughter of the plastic surgeon that did Kate’s tummy tuck after the birth of their sextuplets, has publicly said that Jon is like “Jekyll and Hyde” and that he throws what she calls “mantrums.” For those that don’t know, that is a male tantrum. Hailey also told “The Insider” in a two part interview that Jon takes his anger out on her and is emotionally abusive, but she still loves him. For his … Continue reading

The Latest on the Gosselins and Michael Jackson

It seems that lately two things dominate the pop culture news – Jon and Kate Gosselin and Michael Jackson. Never mind that Jackson is dead and Jon and Kate are divorcing, they still somehow manage to stay at the top of the news headlines. As you may know, Michael Jackson was finally laid to rest Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif. Even though the burial was a private affair for family and friends only, there was still fanfare. Rev. Al Sharpton was there along with Elizabeth Taylor, Lisa Marie Presley, Gladys Knight, Quincy Jones, Barry Gordy, Chris Tucker, … Continue reading

The Pop Culture Week in Review – September 5, 2009

As we all get ready to head into a long Labor Day weekend, I am going to take time to review the pop culture events that happened over the last week. Two celebrities were buried this weekend. Michael Jackson’s body finally got to its eternal resting place after almost 10 weeks. The singer was buried in a private ceremony at the Great Mausoleum at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California. Like in life, Michael will be surrounded by stars in death. Also buried at the cemetery are Jimmy Stewart, George Burns, Errol Flynn, Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, and Dorothy Dandridge. … Continue reading

The Latest Michael Jackson News

It has been a little over a month since Michael Jackson died, but the craziness around the story still continues. What’s true? What’s not true? It seems as if no one really knows, but here are a few of the stories out there: The Los Angeles County coroner’s office has issued the news that the Jackson autopsy results will not be released this week as first expected. No reason was given for the delay of the release, but it may be another week before the world learns of the toxicology report. Jackson, according to executors of the estate, took care … Continue reading

Funerals, Memorials, and More Celebrity Deaths

It has been a rough few weeks for Hollywood. Right on the heels of David Carradine’s June 3rd death came the news of Ed McMahon’s death on June 23rd. Not that it was unexpected, but it was still sad to lose a television legend like that. They say death travels in threes and I guess everyone thought it was over when Farrah Fawcett succumbed to anal cancer on June 25th. But, we only had a short time to mourn the loss of Farrah before the biggest blow of them all came – Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, died just … Continue reading

King of Pop Michael Jackson Dead at 50

My pop culture head is literally spinning. When Ed McMahon passed away a few days ago, I was sad, but I knew many young readers wouldn’t remember Ed other than his financial problems of late. When Farrah Fawcett passed away today, again, I was sad, but knew that she was not in good shape. While still trying to blog about Farrah, a friend told me Michael Jackson was dead. It was being reported by TMZ, but I wasn’t sure how much faith to put in that. Now, both the AP and NBC have confirmed that the singer died after being … Continue reading

Celebrity Auctions Bring in Big Bucks

When a celebrity auction occurs, it seems that everyone wants a piece of the action. This week, several items have sold for quite a nice sum. A first edition Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was auctioned off by Dallas’ Heritage Auction Galleries and brought in $19,000. While you can find a copy of the first Harry Potter book much cheaper, you won’t be able to find a first edition. There were only 200 copies printed as opposed to the millions after the book became a success. Oh, and this one is also autographed by J.K. Rowling, … Continue reading
