A Review of “Brigham City”

“Brigham City” is the only LDS film written as a mystery/drama. This is a unique take on the Mormon movie movement since the majority of the movies fall into the category of romantic comedy or drama. “Brigham City” is Richard Dutcher’s second film that he has made for the Mormon movie market. This movie is set in Brigham City a small Utah town. The movie opens with a murder. The town tenses up as they realize that the suspect might be one of them. Sheriff Wes Clayton is also one of the bishops in town. He struggles to figure out … Continue reading

“Johnny Lingo” and “Cipher in the Snow”

If you grew up in the church then you must have seen “Johnny Lingo” and “Cipher in the Snow.” The standard joke about being an eight-cow wife can be inserted here. These classics are no longer being shared on a regular basis, and I was pleased when I received them as gift on DVD. The first DVD has four films on it. They are “Johnny Lingo,” “The Mailbox,” “Uncle Ben,” and “Christmas Snows, Christmas Winds.” These movies teach a moral as they share the story. It was great to sit down and watch “Johnny Lingo” again after all these years. … Continue reading

A Review of “Pride and Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy”

The plot is similar to the original “Pride & Prejudice” except that Elizabeth is now a grad student at BYU and is writing a novel, which she hopes to have published. She does not have sisters; instead roommates replace them. However the characters remain the same with the awkward shy … Continue reading

LDS Film Sites

My husband was a film major while attending BYU and so he has kept right up with the LDS film movement. He always seems to know what is coming out when, and he can tell you how well a film is doing. I have often wondered how he knows so much about the film movement since we live outside of Utah, but then he told me about sites that help him to stay up-to-date on the topic. One site is www.ldsfilm.com. This site is a great resource if you want to learn more what is happening in the LDS film … Continue reading
