Why Rosie Won’t Be Taking On Larry King

Isn’t it ironic? For months the peacock network has been courting Rosie O’Donnell for a possible primetime talk show to air on MSNBC. Then, less than a day after the acerbic comedian blabbed to the media about the pending deal, NBC pulled the plug on its offer. O’Donnell was spurned for speaking out of turn, but later laughed off the incident when speaking about NBC’s decision on her website. “Listen, I’m too old!” O’Donnell said with a chuckle. “When you’re young, you do those things. ‘Yes, I won’t tell anyone! Lock me in the NBC vault!’ ” So, here’s the … Continue reading

I wonder what Tori Spelling thinks about getting a new boss? Today NBC Universal announced it plans to buy Oxygen Media, the cable TV network that broadcasts programming specifically for women, including Spelling’s new reality show “Tori & Dean: Inn Love.” According to news reports, for an estimated $925 million, NBC Universal will acquire the network that broadcasts syndicated sitcoms such as “Mad About You” and “Roseanne,” as well as movies geared to women. Ready, Set, Watch!

Yesterday was the first official day of the 2007-08 TV season. This week is an especially critical time for networks as they unveil their newest contenders in the battle to win over as many viewers as possible. In a departure from years past this season’s new shows are straying from the reality genre and offering more of an escape from real life. Supernatural and science fiction genres featuring characters who use their “extraordinary” gifts to conquer the bad guys are getting the most buzz this season. In other words, several networks are hoping to share in the success of NBC’s … Continue reading

All About Katie

I’ll admit I have written quite a number of blogs about Katie Couric. Most of them were penned in the days following her historic move to the “CBS Evening News.” Next month will mark Couric’s first anniversary at the CBS anchor desk and wouldn’t you know that her big day is being marred by the publication of a new book that allegedly paints the peppy former “Today” show queen in a very unflattering light. Talk about timing. It’s no secret that Couric has faced a ton of criticism in the last few months. Rating for her show have tanked since … Continue reading

It’s official… well, almost. Comic Drew Carey has confirmed that he will be replacing game show legend Bob Barker in the fall. Carey spilled the beans during a taping of the “Late Show with David Letterman.” The deal puts to end the massive amounts of speculation regarding who would fill Barker’s shoes at the CBS daytime game show “The Price is Right.” Several months ago 83-year-old Barker announced he would be retiring, that opened the floodgates regarding who would be selected as the popular show’s new host. The front-runner (at least for a while) seemed to be outspoken talk show … Continue reading

Celebrity Updates: Barkley, Seinfeld, and More

In between the bits about Brit and the parts about Paris there come stories about celebrities whose work should really be grabbing headlines, but typically don’t. Such is the case with basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley. The all-star athlete showed he is able to score big on and off the court when he treated 100 Lake Tahoe-area firefighters to dinner Saturday night. Barkley toured the devastation of a nearby wildfire that destroyed 254 homes last month when he was in town to play in a charity golf event last week. The fire displaced 3,500 residents and caused more than … Continue reading

Random Acts of Stardom

What is it with celebrities and cupcakes? First Katie Holmes was seen doling the confections out to castmates and crew members on the set of her new movie and now a popular TV doctor is providing them to a fellow actress as a form of medicine. According to USA Today, when “The Office” star Jenna Fischer injured her back at party hosted by NBC a couple of weeks ago, fellow actor Zach Braff (who plays Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian on NBC’s hit comedy “Scrubs”) sent her a big tray of cupcakes to lift her spirits. “In those first few days, … Continue reading
