Parents Coming to Their Children’s Defense

People are still talking about the shouting match… I mean interview… CNN’s Nancy Grace got into… I mean conducted, with murder suspect William Balfour’s mother earlier this week. Balfour is the man police are calling a “person of interest” in the brutal slayings of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Police say all three were victims of multiple gunshot wounds. The latest reports say Hudson’s young nephew, Julian King received two fatal gunshot wounds to his head and that the shots were fired at close range. Shortly after that news broke Balfour’s mother appeared by phone on … Continue reading

Nancy Grace vs. William Balfour’s Mother

CNN’s Nancy Grace contained herself for about six minutes before she lit into a hot-tempered, defensive, and at times, incomprehensible Michele Davis-Balfour. Balfour is the mother of William Balfour—-the “person of interest” in the murders of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew. Did you see the interview last night? What an absolute train wreck! Balfour was invited on Grace’s TV show to explain the events leading up to her son’s arrest as she understood them. Believe me; she didn’t do her son any favors. Balfour started out fine, but it didn’t take long before she lapsed into a barrage … Continue reading

Celebrities Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving may be over, but Nancy Grace has something extra special to be grateful for today. According to her rep, the CNN Headline News anchor is finally getting to take home her nearly one-month-old baby daughter Lucy Elizabeth. Little Lucy will join her twin brother John David who was released from the hospital on Thanksgiving. As I reported in a previous blog the babies were born on November 4th, two months before their scheduled due date. Doctors were forced to perform an emergency C-section on Grace after she was diagnosed with pulmonary edema during her pregnancy and developed fluid in … Continue reading

“The Grinch” and Grace Get the Go Ahead

“I think one Grinch in town is enough.” That’s the word from a New York State Supreme Court judge who ordered the reopening of “Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas!” despite the ongoing Broadway stagehands strike. Which means as of 11 a.m. tomorrow the show will go on… at least for “The Grinch.” More than two dozen other plays and musicals will remain dark. However, for the thousands of Broadway ticket holders who traveled to the Big Apple for the Thanksgiving weekend the news couldn’t have come at a better time. “We got our miracle on 44th Street,” the … Continue reading

The Good, the Bad, and the UGH-ly

THE GOOD In a rare (and what will likely be brief) appearance under the “good” headline, singer Britney Spears is lending a hand to help those in need. The mother of two just announced that she is planning to aid the underprivileged children of the world by donating money to UNICEF. Spears is teaming up with photo agency X17 to raise money for the relief organization by auctioning an autographed copy of her latest CD, Blackout, on eBay. “I think it’s important to give back and with the release of Blackout, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to give the … Continue reading

Oh Baby! Giada’s Pregnant and Nancy Has Twins

Celebrity chef turned “Today” show contributor Giada De Laurentiis is having a baby. And to illustrate just how skinny she is, the almost 5-months pregnant Food Network hottie says she hasn’t had to buy maternity clothes yet. (If De Laurentiis wants to keep her female audience she should really think about limiting those types of comments.) What’s more, the good-looking TV chef revealed that she has been giving into her starchy cravings for months. I must say I was stunned when I heard the news. Giada is my favorite Italian chef. I have a couple of her cookbooks and am … Continue reading

Married with (In the Near Future) Children and a Split

Nancy Grace: A Newly Wed and a Soon-to-be-Mother This morning on CNN Headline News, anchor Nancy Grace announced that she not only secretly got married, she is also expecting twins! At the age of 47, this puts her in the Marcia Cross Club of older moms expecting twins. She married Atlanta investment banker David Lynch in April. The two originally met at Mercer College in the late 70s. Grace said that she never expected to get married, and that this was a “spur of the moment” thing. She only notified family members two days before the wedding. She is set … Continue reading

Celebrity Corner—All Gone!

In my previous blog: “Celebrity Corner–Going, Going, Gone” I made a remark about Billy Ray Cyrus’ miraculous longevity on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Last night his run on the dance competition came to an end and now he is GONE! But, he isn’t alone. Recently, a number of other celebrities have gotten the boot (or decided to leave on their own) from a variety of venues: Duane “Dog” Chapman and his wife were given the boot from a United Airlines flight early Monday morning after they allegedly yelled and swore at a flight attendant. According to news reports, Los … Continue reading

New Looks For Some Old Favorites

“High School Musical”—it’s everywhere! The Disney smash hit started off as a TV movie, morphed into a quadruple-platinum CD, then hit the road as a touring live concert and a top-selling DVD. Now, (brace yourself) “High School Musical” is chilling out—on ice. That’s right; “Disney’s High School Musical: The Ice Tour” is heading to an arena near you. Beginning August 31st the tour will travel to at least 100 cities over the next year. According to Disney officials, the production will feature “some of the world’s most talented skaters” performing to music from the “High School Musical” soundtrack. Another popular … Continue reading

Psychological tactics of the media

The death by suicide of American mother Melinda Duckett has highlighted the increasingly intrusive and abusive nature of some members of the media. While scammers are often the target of so-called investigative journalists, and perhaps rightly so, in the past decade journalists appear to have dismissed the line between genuine newsworthy copy and outright voyeurism. And in the Duckett case, the media has inadvertently interfered with standard legal proceedings. The sad case of Melinda Duckett involves the disappearance of her two-year-old son Trenton, who Duckett reported as having been snatched from his crib. Renowned CNN prosecutorial interviewer Nancy Grace utilized … Continue reading
