Forbes Announces List of Most Overpaid Movie Stars

Forbes is at it again – this time, uncovering the most overpaid movie stars. Now, before you start, let me state that they did it very scientifically. They looked at the star’s last three films that opened before January 1 (to give it time to be released on DVD). They discounted animated films, supporting roles, and any star that consistently earned less than $5 million per movie. To calculate the gross income for every dollar paid, those at Forbes took half of the worldwide box office per movie, then added the first three months of DVD revenues. They then subtracted … Continue reading

Sniff, Sniff…the Best Tearjerker Movie List – Part 1

We’ve all seen them – the movies that make our eyes well up with tears whether we want them to or not. It may be for a good reason or for a sad reason, but here are my top 10 tearjerkers: 10. Leaving Las Vegas No, this is not a conventional tearjerker and as far as I know, I am the only one in the world to openly sob when I saw this at the theater (with a date no less!). But, Nicolas Cage’s Ben is such a sad, lonely, and destructive character. When Sera comes to find him dying … Continue reading

Nicolas Cage Refuses to Turn the Other Cheek and Natalie Slams Amy

A few weeks ago, I blogged about Kathleen Turner’s new autobiography titled “’Send Yourself Roses.” More specifically, I blogged about the things Kathleen said about her co-stars. She had accused Nicolas Cage of being a criminal while filming Peggy Sue Got Married, saying that he was arrested twice for drunk driving and once for stealing a dog. She also accused him of causing problems on the set because his famous uncle, Francis Ford Coppola was directing and he wanted to show he wasn’t under his wing. Now, Nicolas is fighting back. While he made no mention of causing problems on … Continue reading

The Surprising and the Not-So Surprising

Actress Kathleen Turner has come out and said Nicolas Cage was difficult…at least he was 21 years ago. Kathleen has just written her autobiography Send Yourself Roses and in it, she says Nicolas was a real diva when the two filmed Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986. The film was directed by Nicolas’ real life uncle, Francis Ford Coppola. In case you didn’t know, Nicolas’ birth name was Nicholas Kim Coppola. He changed his last name to Cage so he wouldn’t get any special treatment for being a Coppola. He took the last name of Cage after comic book character … Continue reading

National Treasure: Still Raking in the Dough

I love Nicolas Cage in dramatic (Leaving Las Vegas), comedic (Peggy Sue Got Married), and romantic roles (Moonstruck), but I think my favorite genre for him is action/adventure. I was in the theatre to see both Con Air and The Rock and they are still two of my favorite Cage movies. Of course, when he did National Treasure, I was overjoyed! In case you missed National Treasure, it is an action/adventure flick that features Nicolas as Benjamin Gates. His family has a long history of being treasure hunters and he carries that on by hunting for treasure, supposedly hidden by … Continue reading

Join in the World’s Biggest Treasure Hunt!

In anticipation of the opening of National Treasure: Book of Secrets on December 21st of this year, Walt Disney Pictures is sponsoring the world’s biggest treasure hunt and it starts today! National Treasure: Book of Secrets is the long awaited sequel to 2004’s National Treasure, starring Nicolas Cage. Though purely fiction, National Treasure was a very entertaining (and educational) Indiana Jones style adventure that takes place right here in the U.S.A. (You can read the Families.com movie review of National Treasure here). Although not meant for very young children, I think National Treasure’s real appeal was in how well it … Continue reading

Movie Milestones – 25 Year Anniversaries – Continued

Okay, in a previous blog, I was talking about movies that turn 25 this year. Twenty-five years – it seems like only yesterday I was watching these favorites of mine at the theater! First Blood If you didn’t get enough Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III in 1982, you certainly must have gotten your fill with his then-new character, John Rambo, in First Blood. John was just a Vietnam vet who just wanted to be left alone, but the town police wouldn’t let that happen and he unleashed all his Green Beret experience upon them. If you enjoy a film with … Continue reading

Gimmie, Gimme, Gimmie—Give, Give, Give: Charitable Celebrities Lend a Helping Hand

We’re used to hearing about the demands that some of Hollywood’s biggest names frequently voice on movie sets or at various concert venues. Perhaps that’s why there is so much press generated when any one of Tinseltown’s mega-watt stars illustrate a preference to give than to receive. In just the last week we’ve read that Angelina Jolie regularly donates a third of her income to charitable causes. Then billionaires Warren Buffet and Bill Gates announced that they are giving half of their fortunes to charity. Just a few days ago the pop-rock band, Hootie and The Blowfish kicked off a … Continue reading
