Oprah Speaks about Herman Rosenblat’s “Angel at the Fence”

Ah, it was the greatest love story that never really happened. You know, when Oprah gives you her stamp of approval, it is a big, big thing. Even as a mere mortal, I know that Oprah has the power to make you or break you, so why would you jeopardize yourself with a lie? (This file, by Alan Light, is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License) One might ask that of Herman Rosenblat, the author of the yet to be released book “Angel at the Fence.” In case you haven’t heard, the book was to tell the story of … Continue reading

Barack Obama’s Jam Packed, Star-Studded Inauguration

A while back, I blogged about the upcoming Barack Obama presidential inauguration and how people were chomping at the bits to get tickets. If you have been one of the lucky ones to be promised a ticket, but haven’t reserved a hotel room, you may be out of luck! Hotels in D.C. have been booked for months and now people are stretching out into Baltimore and Virginia to look for places to stay. D.C.. Mayor Adrian Fenty is even allowing citizens to rent their homes out without first obtaining a business license, but that doesn’t seem to be easing the … Continue reading

Getting Tickets to Barack Obama’s Inauguration Parties

On January 20th, history will be made when Barack Obama is sworn in as the first African American president of the United States. As United States citizens who elected him, we should be able to attend some of the celebratory events in person, right? Eh, well, maybe not. (This United States Congress image is in the public domain.) There will be many events, but your chances of getting tickets to one is probably slim and none. Don’t let anyone on eBay fool you by saying they have one of the “New Path to Freedom” inauguration ceremony tickets for sale because … Continue reading

Jennifer Hudson’s Final Farewell to Slain Family Members

Oprah Winfrey was there, as was Queen Latifah, record producer Clive Davis, and rapper Missy Elliot. The celebrities joined about 2,500 other mourners at the private funeral for actress Jennifer Hudson’s murdered mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew yesterday. According to news reports, Hudson bid an emotional farewell to her slain relatives while her former “American Idol” competitors sang rousing gospel selections. The Chicago Tribune reports that shortly before the open casket service began the Oscar winner rose from her second-row pew at Chicago’s Apostolic Church of God and spent a few moments with her mother, Darnell Donerson; her brother, Jason; … Continue reading

Is It Possible to Affair-Proof a Marriage?

On Oprah’s “Why Men Cheat Part 2” show, M. Gary Neuman offered three ways to affair-proof a marriage: 1. Appreciate your spouse more. In fact, make sure to appreciate your spouse as much as you possibly can. 2. Have sex. Make time for sex. Enjoy sex. (He suggested women are bad about receiving pleasure. Men are better at that. By nature they’re takers and we’re givers. We’re not comfortable receiving. Be it sexual pleasure or tokens of affection. Mr. Neuman said instead of saying “You shouldn’t have” when your husband gives you something, you should say, “Yes you should have … Continue reading

Oprah’s “Why Men Cheat” Controversy

Last week Oprah did a show called “How to Affair-Proof Your Marriage: Why Men Cheat Part 2.” I don’t know if she had the “Part 2” planned or not. From the previews it kind of sounded like they did it in response to all of the responses Part 1 generated. It was the previews that caught my attention. Since I wasn’t going to be able to watch the show when it aired, I recorded it. Saturday while Wayne and I were hanging out to nurse Murph, he was flipping through our recorded programs on the DVR and saw the Oprah … Continue reading

Celebs at the Democratic Convention

Yesterday was the official kickoff of the Democratic National Convention in Colorado and the celebs turned out to support the party. Singer Sheryl Crow dedicated the song “Strong Enough” to presidential hopeful Barack Obama at last night’s concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater. She changed the lyrics to fit the occasion, singing “Are you strong enough to my man, or my president?” Crow told the Associated Press before the concert that she felt the Republican Party was responsible for the celebrity tag attached to Obama’s name, but said “I have yet to see him at any celebrity events.” Another musician on … Continue reading

We all know they have money, but just how much do they really have? Here is a list of the richest women in show business: Oprah This one is a no brainer, but how much does the reigning queen of daytime television really have? Tom Cruise Loves… Tom Cruise

If you want something done right you should do it yourself. It’s a philosophy Tom Cruise appears to subscribe to. The movie star just launched a new website devoted to… well, himself. I know what you’re thinking: There are thousands of narcissistic entertainers in Hollywood and Cruise surely is not the first to create a website for fans. You’re right, but Cruise’s new entry on the World Wide Web is of particular interest because he more than just about any celebrity has been the subject of numerous YouTube-able moments in the past couple of years. Do you realize how many … Continue reading
