My Newest Attempt at Reconstruction

I woke up this morning with two nicely sized “girls” and now I was getting ready to go for what feels like my third mastectomy day. Did you ever see that movie “Ground Hog Day”? Where the newscaster wakes up every day and it is the same day over and over again. That is what I felt like, every time I get used to the “girls” they get taken away again. Luckily for me when the first reconstruction failed not all the tissue died so I still would have some chest just not the overly abundant chest that I was … Continue reading

Found Me a New Plastic Surgeon

I had my first appointment with a new plastic surgeon and I must admit I was really uncomfortable. I had heard that this doctor make incredible breast and it was a little weird to hear that is what he is known for. I went to the appointment with my husband because by now I had about 8 surgeries between the initial mastectomies and reconstruction and all the repairs that followed. I have also just recently had to have my reconstruction reworked and implants put in. I tried to be patient with my first surgeon and I think I gave him … Continue reading

Thinking About Implants?

Breast augmentation surgery has been available in the United States for more than forty years. If you aren’t happy with your bust for some reason, you may be thinking about a breast lift or implants. The basics: breast augmentation surgery can be performed at any age after the breasts are fully developed. There are restrictions on the use of implants in women under the age of eighteen. Implants are inserted through an incision made just above the breast crease, around the nipple, or in the armpit. The implant is placed into a pocket behind the breast tissue or behind the … Continue reading

Implant Revision and Replacement

If you are considering implants or already have implants, it is important to know that breast implants are NOT designed to last a lifetime. In most cases, women with implants need at least one (if not more) surgeries for routine implant replacement. So why would a woman need or want revision or replacement surgery? Leakage is perhaps the most common reason why implants may need revision or replacement. Leakage can be a problem with both saline and silicone implants. Saline implants may show a leak more quickly, because the affected breast becomes softer and smaller. Silicone gel leaks are usually … Continue reading

Before Considering Cosmetic Surgery

If you are thinking about some sort of cosmetic surgery, you may be thinking more about the physical issues than things like insurance, facilities, and accreditations. Cosmetic surgery is generally considered elective surgery, and therefore is not covered by most insurance plans. Your plastic surgeon will be able to tell you what may be covered and what might not be covered — a breast reduction for health reasons may be considered “reconstructive” instead of “cosmetic” and may be covered by your insurance plan. Fees for the surgery are generally paid before the actual surgery takes place. Your cost will vary, … Continue reading

Celebrities and Plastic Surgery

I was watching something the other night on television and Priscilla Presley came on screen. At least I think it was Priscilla Presley, it could have been the Joker from Batman. She was once a beautiful woman and even seemed to be aging gracefully but apparently, some butcher got a hold of her face and mutilated it. She was no longer even remotely attractive, but something odd looking. Not exactly Michael Jackson odd looking, but still, it was not good. I started wondering why some celebrities end up with good plastic surgery results and some seem to get horrible results. … Continue reading
