Frugal Decorating: Making Postcard Art

Do you have an empty wall that can use some decorating? Why not try postcard art for a chic and cheap way to brighten up your space. I am a big fan of all of those decorating and design shows and magazines that showcase gorgeous professionally designed rooms. Unfortunately, the price tag on many of the pieces that go into one of these rooms is far more than I would pay. But I still enjoy watching and reading, and getting lots of ideas that can be adapted to fit a more frugal lifestyle. One theme that does keep coming up … Continue reading

Sending Christmas Cards

Do you faithfully send out Christmas cards each year? Maybe this is the first time you plan to send them. Either way, there are some great cards out there from which to choose. You can buy themed sets pre-packaged with matching envelopes or you can purchase individual cards. Maybe you opted for family portrait cards. Those are my favorite kind. You can also print cards from your computer. Most desktop publishing programs offer a greeting card setup. With this option, you can make your own family photo cards with just a snapshot. Pen Pal or Friendship Postcards or Note Cards

The simplest way to make special postcards is to use all occasion greeting cards (or holiday or birthday cards at the appropriate times of year). Postage Costs Adds up

Maybe it’s been a rough month, and you put off the car payment, hoping to squeeze a few extra dollars from somewhere and get it in at the last second. So, you pay all that … Continue reading

If you have a desktop publishing program, that’s even better, because it will give you step by step instructions. If not, you can make invitations with a word processing program as well. Start by finding some pretty card stock at a good price. There are plenty of places to purchase card stock reasonably, including local stores like Wal-Mart. Choose a fairly heavy weight to make … Continue reading

Postcards… From My Drawer

No matter where I travel, I usually come home with postcards. I buy them with the best intentions: sending them to loved ones with a quick note saying how much I miss them and wishing they were here, yada, yada. Of course, reality is, I never send them out and they end up taking up space in what soon became known as my “postcard drawer.” But, one day enough was enough. It was time to reclaim the drawer. So, I came up with some clever ideas on how to make use of postcards, well after your trip is over. Use … Continue reading
