Sick Stars

He’s one of the funniest celebs on the planet, but Robin Williams’ current health condition is no laughing matter. The comedian needs heart surgery STAT. According to his rep, Williams’ needs an aortic valve replacement and will be forced to cancel the remainder of his one-man comedy show, “Weapons of Self-Destruction,” as a result. In a statement to fans released yesterday the “Dead Poet’s Society” star called his health scare a “minor setback” and promised that he would resume his act “after a little tune-up.” Williams was in Florida getting ready to perform in front of a live audience when … Continue reading

Robin Williams Divorcing, Richie Sambora Arrested for DUI, and Emilio Improves

It was announced today that Robin Williams’ wife, Marsha Garces Williams, filed for divorce in the San Francisco Superior Court on March 21, listing the reason as irreconcilable differences. The two have been married for 19 years and have two children together, Zelda and Cody. The two met when Marsha was the nanny of Williams and his first wife Valerie Valardi. That couple had one child, son Zachary. Williams’ agent said the two are splitting, but offered no more information. Personally, I love Robin Williams, but it is a wonder she could put up with him for 19 years. He … Continue reading

Do You Have a License to Wed?

Let me preface this blog with the advice that this movie is a waste of time. I went to see it with my husband and my mother in law and what looked like a mildly amusing romp in previews was actually a guide for all the things you shouldn’t do when getting ready to get married. First and foremost, the preface of the movie is that the boy meets girl, boy and girl date, boy and girl fall in love and move in together – boy proposes and girl wants to get married at her family church with the reverend … Continue reading

Flubber (1997)

“Flubber” is a remake of the old Fred MacMurray film, “The Absent-Minded Professor,” but Robin Williams, in the role of Phillip Brainard, takes absent-minded to a whole new level. He’s even spaced off his own wedding twice, and as the movie begins, his patient fiancé Sara (Marcia Gay Harden) is preparing to give it one more go that very night. With the school where they both teach on the brink of financial ruin, it’s a grim time, but a wedding will be just the thing to pull them out of the doldrums. Phillip has been working for two years on … Continue reading

Juicy Hollywood Tidbits – June 25, 2007

Cameron Diaz’s Purse Faux Pas Poor Cameron Diaz…she just wanted to be fashionable. But her purse caused quite a stir in Peru. Cameron unknowingly carried a purse that offended the citizens of the country while she was in Machu Picchu. Her purse was olive green with a red star and had the Chinese words for “Serve the People” written on it. Turns out those words are a reminder of the Maoist Shining Path insurgency. This insurgency by the communist party of Peru during the late 80s/early 90s resulted in almost 70,000 losing their lives in massacres and bombings. It is … Continue reading

Movie Milestones – 25 Year Anniversaries – Continued

Okay, in a previous blog, I was talking about movies that turn 25 this year. Twenty-five years – it seems like only yesterday I was watching these favorites of mine at the theater! First Blood If you didn’t get enough Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III in 1982, you certainly must have gotten your fill with his then-new character, John Rambo, in First Blood. John was just a Vietnam vet who just wanted to be left alone, but the town police wouldn’t let that happen and he unleashed all his Green Beret experience upon them. If you enjoy a film with … Continue reading

A Hidden Jewel: The Timekeeper

One of the true pleasures of going to Disney World or Disneyland is going to see the attractions hosted within the parks. One of these attractions must be new because I don’t recall seeing it the last time I was there (2005), but trust me – it’s on the top of my list to see the next time I set foot in the Magic Kingdom. What is this jewel that is making the top of my list? It’s called: The Timekeeper The Timekeeper is a time-travel movie adventure that is open seasonally. The presentation lasts about 20 minutes and you … Continue reading

Comic Relief Returns

If you have been missing Comic Relief, you will be glad to know it is returning! The three original comedian hosts – Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robin Williams – will return on November 18th to resurrect their fundraising comedy concert. This is the first time in almost eight years the three have gotten together and this time, the money will go to victims of Hurricane Katrina, including both humans and the animals displaced because of the storm. Due to many factors including lack of housing and jobs, a year after the storm, the New Orleans population is estimated to … Continue reading

The Tears of a Clown: Robin Williams Enters Rehab for Alcoholism

There are two stars that I almost feel like I have grown up with – John Travolta and Robin Williams. Both were young stars when I was a teen and have grown into very established stars. I have followed the career of both and have seen them go from underappreciated to well respected actors. As far as comedy goes, there is – at least in my mind – no comic greater at improve than Robin Williams. In fact, he may be the best – ever. It was announced this week that Robin Williams decided to enter rehab for alcoholism. His … Continue reading

“RV” Rolls Into Theaters

RV is one of the first summer movies to hit the big screen, opening in theaters April 28th. The movie is about a father who rents an RV and decides to take his family on a camping adventure. When Bob Munro’s (Robin Williams) boss asks him to go on a business trip to Colorodo the same time as his family’s planned trip to Hawaii, Bob gets a brilliant idea. Scrap the families Hawaii plans, rent an RV, and take the family on a camping vacation in Colorodo rather than a tropical Hawaiian vacation. Sounds like a fabulous plan to me. … Continue reading
