Sanjaya Presents the Top Ten List on The Late Show with David Letterman

In case you haven’t been on the planet the last month and don’t know who Sanjaya is, I am talking about Sanjaya Malakar. Sanjaya has been both a curse and blessing to “American Idol” this season. People seemed to either love him or hate him. This innocent looking 17 year old with the huge smile managed to become so talked about, journalists were even asking presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton what she thought of him. What caused so many people grief was the fact that Sanjaya didn’t seem to get votes for his singing ability as much as his looks and … Continue reading

“You’re No Sanjaya! You Have To Board Like Everyone Else.”

Catchy title, eh? Wish I could take all the credit for coming up with it, but truth be told, it is an actual quote from a real-life passenger trying to board a flight alongside “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul. Typically, each week I post a “Sunday Travel Funnies” blog. Well, this is it; only I changed the title in hopes of grabbing your attention. Anyway, back to Paula Abdul and the quote heard round the world. According to news reports, Abdul created quite a ruckus recently when she tried to board a Southwest Airlines flight from San Jose to Burbank, … Continue reading

DWTS’ First Victim and Paula Abdul’s 1000th Complaint

Dancing with the Stars’ new season hasn’t officially started yet, but the show is already losing celeb hoofers. Sort of. Yesterday Jewel announced that she might be forced to pull out of the TV dance competition due to a knee injury. The show’s eighth season premiere airs in less than two weeks and the singer says she is unsure she will be able to recover in time. Jewel made the announcement on her blog Wednesday saying that doctors diagnosed her with tendonitis in her knees and that she has started a course of medicine to help with the swelling. “I’m … Continue reading

Former “American Idol” Contestant Found Dead Outside of Paula Abdul’s Home

In what’s being categorized as a “sad incident” by law enforcement officers, the body of a former “American Idol” contestant was found dead in a car near Paula Abdul’s Los Angeles home. According to news reports, 30-year-old Paula Goodspeed overdosed on drugs shortly after she parked her vehicle on a street outside of Abdul’s house Tuesday night. The Season 5 contestant was said to have been infatuated with the “American Idol” judge. Police say they found Goodspeed’s car (which featured the license plate “ABL LV”) parked a few yards from Abdul’s L.A. home. Officers confirm that the vehicle was registered … Continue reading

Howard Stern and American Idol’s LaKisha Jones Wed (but not each other)

It was a big weekend for celebrity weddings. After Scarlett Johannson and Ryan Reynolds’ hush-hush wedding a week ago, Howard Stern and new wife Beth Ostrosky did it up big. The couple married in New York on Friday with such guests as Donald Trump, Kelly Ripa, Jimmy Kimmel, Chevy Chase, Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters, and Billy Joel looking on. Rumor has it that Ripa’s husband, Mark Consuelos, is an ordained minister and he officiated the ceremony. The couple started planning the big event last December. Romance was the theme with 2000 weeping willows filled with white orchids hanging over the … Continue reading

Travel Tales: A Wing and a Prayer

With the sky-high airfare and insane service fees, airlines have become the target of many travelers ire. Airplanes, on the other hand, still hold a special place in some people’s hearts, including Darren and Katie McWalters. The newlyweds say they are die-hard flyers and to prove it they recently exchanged wedding vows 1,000 feet above the earth strapped to the top of biplanes. The 23-year-old bride reportedly took to the skies dressed in her white wedding gown perched on the top wing of red-and-white plane operated by a group of stunt pilots. Meanwhile, her 24-year-old groom flew by her side … Continue reading

Real Life Travel Tales: Putting the Brakes on Summer Escapes

We’ve all been there before: We’re running late for work, school or a doctor’s appointment and we try to make up for lost time by putting the pedal to the metal. Typically, that excuse doesn’t fly when pleading your case to the police officer that just clocked you exceeding the speed limit. So what happens if Smokey clocks you going nearly 110 mph and then catches up with you again during another travel related incident? A couple from Maine will tell you that it doesn’t make for a good day. According to police in Bangor, Maine, officers pulled over a … Continue reading

Sunday Travel Funnies: The Power of Prayer

On this day set aside for prayer and thoughtful reflection I thought it would be appropriate to blog about the way some people are combining God and travel. In St. Louis, Missouri a group of avid travelers will be offering two prayer services at area gas stations to thank God for lower fuel prices and to ask that they continue to drop. I’m not kidding. Darrell Alexander, Midwest co-chair of the “Pray at the Pump” movement, says prayer gatherings will be held tomorrow afternoon and evening at a Mobil station west of downtown St. Louis. Alexander says he and a … Continue reading

Sunday Travel Funnies: It’s All How You Look at It

What would you think if you were driving down a suburban street and found yourself at the end of a radar gun… being held by an 11-year-old? Would you slow down? Drivers in Louisville, Kentucky have. In fact, so many motorists have laid off the gas pedal when they see young Landon Wilburn that he has made front page news across the country. Since police can’t be everywhere, the enterprising boy took matters into his own hands. According to Wilburn, speeding motorists were out of control in his Louisville subdivision and when he shouts to drivers to slow down didn’t … Continue reading

Paula Abdul Needs to Buy a Clue

Honestly, I strive to think of people in the best light possible (which is not to say that I’m always successful) but when it comes to thinking highly of Paula Abdul the word “challenging” becomes a severe understatement. In a previous blog I mentioned that Abdul secretly dreamed of and then made public her desire to compete on ABC’s smash hit “Dancing with the Stars.” Never mind that she is gainfully employed as a judge on Fox’s “American Idol.” (Though, how she remains so is still a mystery to me.) Well, Abdul can put away her dancing shoes because her … Continue reading
