Hawaiian Officials Angered Over SNL Skit

I don’t know if you caught last week’s “Saturday Night Live” or not. The host was Dwayne Johnson, no doubt due to this weekend’s release of Race to Witch Mountain plus his hosting the upcoming Kid’s Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. I thought the show was great, but there was one skit that didn’t make several Hawaiian officials too happy. The skit involved Johnson (who is of Polynesian descent on his mom’s side) and SNL’s Fred Armisen as lowly paid entertainers in a Hawaiian hotel restaurant. The two danced around the restaurant, doing the hula, wearing grass skirts, and singing. But, … Continue reading

“Saturday Night Live” Skit + New York Governor = Controversy

Millions of viewers thought Saturday Night Live’s recent comedy sketch parodying New York Governor David Paterson was hilariously funny. Paterson… not so much. “Paterson in a BLIND Rage Over SNL Skit” screamed the headline in one New York paper. Apparently, the visually impaired governor was not laughing after SNL aired a bit that mocked his blindness. In fact Paterson made his opinion of the late-night comedy’s skit abundantly clear to reporters shortly after the show aired. “I can take a joke,” Paterson told the Daily News, but added, “only 37% of disabled people are working and I’m afraid that that … Continue reading

Star Updates: Jennifer Hudson Offers $100 Grand to Find Nephew and Amy Poehler Gives Birth

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson wants to find her missing 7-year-old nephew now. The singer turned actress is hoping a $100,000 reward for his safe return will encourage someone with information on his whereabouts to come forward. According to police, the former “American Idol” contestant put up the reward money early Sunday along with a posting on her MySpace blog pleading with fans to help in the search for her beloved young nephew Julian King. The boy has been missing since Friday, the day his 57-year-old grandmother, Darnell Donerson and his 29-year-old uncle, Jason Hudson (Hudson’s mother and brother), were found … Continue reading

Palin Preps for “SNL”

T-minus 15 hours… The countdown is on to the moment millions of “Saturday Night Live” fans have been anticipating since the first time Tina Fey nailed her impersonation of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Forget Barack Obama vs. John McCain. Tonight Palin takes on Fey. It’s on. Alaska’s governor will make her “Saturday Night Live” debut alongside scheduled host Josh Brolin, who just happens to star in the new movie “W.,” about President Bush. While “SNL” producers are staying tight-lipped about exactly how they plan to make the most of the Palin/Fey face-off one thing is for sure, it … Continue reading

Sarah Palin’s Hollywood Job Offers

If things don’t work out in the world of politics Sarah Palin can always cash in on the myriad of job offers coming her way from Hollywood. The 44-year-old Republican governor of Alaska turned vice presidential candidate has been the recipient of dozens of recent high profile job offers, including one from Playboy boss Hugh Hefner, who has repeatedly asked the mother of five (and soon-to-be grandmother) to strip naked in the famous men’s magazine. I’m pretty sure the famous hockey mom put that offer on ice… at least for now. Another offer on the table for Palin comes courtesy … Continue reading

“Saturday Night Live” Season Premiere: Fey Swims Phelps Sinks

It was all down hill after the first 5 minutes… at least that’s what the critics are saying today after the much hyped season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” aired on NBC. It was sink or swim for first time host Michael Phelps and by the looks of the reviews the gold medal winning part man part fish sank like a rock. Despite Phelps’ desperate doggie paddle to the finish, the late night show soared in the ratings. According to Nielsen Media Research, “SNL’s” 34th-season premiere logged a 7.4 rating (which roughly translates to 6 million viewers) to score the … Continue reading

The Power of Guest Stars

Forget about Michael Phelps sinking or swimming during his stint as host of this week’s “Saturday Night Live,” I’m more interested in the rumor that “SNL” alum Tina Fey may be returning to the popular comedy sketch show to play Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. I have been a fan of Fey’s since she made her debut on “SNL” (she left to head up NBC’s “30 Rock”) and would be thrilled to see her back on late-night TV. “SNL” head honcho Lorne Michaels wouldn’t confirm Fey’s temporary return; rather all he would tell reporters is that whoever plays John … Continue reading

Michael Phelps the Comedian?

I suppose if Nancy Kerrigan can do it, why not Michael Phelps? The king of the pool will be stepping into unchartered waters when he hosts the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” on September 13th. (We all know the number 8 was great for the swimming sensation in China; now we’ll get to see how 13 treats him.) The golden boy of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China will not only be making his acting debut on the late-night institution, Phelps will also be hooking up with the recording artist whose music motivated him in the … Continue reading

Look Who’s Hosting “Saturday Night Live”

I’ll give you a few hints: He’s on TV Monday-Friday and sounds as though he is reading rather than speaking (probably because he is). He’s clean cut, intelligent and recently admitted the most nervous he has ever been was when he was standing on the 50-yard line at Lambeau Field during halftime at a recent Green Bay Packers’ game in front of 70,000 plus screaming fans. Who is he? If you guessed Brian Williams give yourself a pat on the back. The anchor of “NBC Nightly News” better get over his fear of performing live in front of large crowds … Continue reading

Celebrity Milestones: Engaged and Expecting Again

So much for the Tina Fey rumor… It appears Jimmy Fallon is officially off the market. But, the groom-to-be is did not propose to any of his former “Saturday Night Live” co-stars. Rather, Fallon is engaged to girlfriend Nancy Juvonen, a Hollywood producer who worked on the actor’s 2005 romantic comedy “Fever Pitch.” And by the sounds of it the proposal was as romantic as any Hollywood-produced love scene. According to a friend of the couple’s, Fallon popped the question in New Hampshire on the dock of Juvonen’s family home in Wolfeboro on Lake Winnipesaukee–the same place where “On Golden … Continue reading
