Strengthen Your Marriage by Studying the Gospel Together

One way to strengthen your marriage is to read and study the gospel together. Taking time to have daily or weekly scripture study with just your spouse can give you insight into the gospel that you might not have received before. It will bring you closer together and help you to incorporate the gospel into your marriage relationship. Here are five tips to help make the study time work for you. 1) Set up a time that will work for both of you. If you find that you simply do not have time to read and discuss the scriptures together … Continue reading

Studying the Scriptures Brings Balance to the Day

The difference between a good day and not-so-good day is reading the scriptures. It is amazing how much I can accomplish when I sit down and read my scriptures first thing in the morning. My attitude is better. I am able to focus on the task at hand and my energy level is higher. I was reminded of that today when I overslept, forget that I had something that had to be done in the next twenty minutes and then I left the house. I didn’t remember that I hadn’t read until I realized that I hadn’t accomplished anything during … Continue reading

Are You Doing the Little Things?

What can we do to improve our lives? To bring ourselves more in tune with the Spirit? We have been asked these questions or similar ones week after week. The answers we give are always the same. You know the seminary answers: read our scriptures; have personal prayer; have family prayer; have family home evening; keep the commandments; pay your tithing; and follow the prophet. These answers are important. They may seem repetitive. They may seem like the little things that we have been asked to do, but they are the most important ones. Have you taken the opportunity lately … Continue reading

Preparing to Be Taught

Each Sunday we gather together at church to partake of the sacrament. After the sacrament meeting we have the opportunity to attend Sunday School class. We will also attend either Priesthood or Relief Society meetings. Our children will attend Primary or Young Men’s or Young Women’s. The opportunity that we have to be instructed each week is not one that we should take lightly. I find that I pay better attention during the weeks that I have read the lessons beforehand. As a student I am better prepared to make comments if I have thought about the topic of the … Continue reading

Primary Time: Personal Scripture Study

If you have older Primary children, it is a great time to have them establish the habit of daily scripture reading. I started the year that I turned eight, because my stake president had challenged all the youth (eight years and older) to read the book of Mormon everyday. I honestly would not have started the habit if I had not been asked to at that time. I think it would have been more difficult to establish the habit if I had been challenged as an older teenager. You can help your children start the habit, and hopefully it will … Continue reading

Studying the Scriptures Makes My Day Better

I have found that the difference between a good day and an okay day hinges on whether or not I read my scriptures first thing in the morning. I find that making sure I am up and reading in the mornings really gives me an extra boost throughout my day. It can be difficult for me to get up early enough to do this, especially when I’ve got an early appointment somewhere, but I really can tell the difference when I’ve studied and when I haven’t. As I evaluate my scripture study habits, I know that there is a lot … Continue reading

Book of Mormon Reading

I know that many people rose to take President Hinckley’s challenge to read the Book of Mormon last year. I love the Book of Mormon, and I read it everyday. I usually read two chapters a day, and by doing this I am able to read the Book of Mormon about three times every year. This has helped the Book of Mormon become very familiar to me, so that I can find scriptures and passages fairly easily. In college, a member in one of my wards talked about her experience with sitting down and reading the Book of Mormon in … Continue reading

Teaching Scripture Stories to Young Children

I think that one of the greatest things that you can do to help your children is teach them scripture stories. As your children learn about the heroes that are discussed in the Bible and the Book of Mormon, they can learn from their examples and stand up for what is right. The stories in the scriptures are powerful. You can usually find a story to match any concept that you are trying to teach from honesty to standing up for what is right to patience in your afflictions. One of the best ways to teach the scripture stories to … Continue reading

Personal Scripture Study

Daily scripture study helps me to make it through the day to day grind of life. It allows me a few moments each day to focus on my relationship with Christ and allows me the chance to grow closer to Him. As I take the time to read and study each day, I can feel the peace of the gospel come into my heart. That peace helps to fortify me against the tasks that I have in the day ahead. It truly strengthens me for all the trials that I have to face whether today or in the years to … Continue reading
