Queen Guitarist Completes Doctorate Queen has always been my favorite band. Well, okay, when I was six, I loved the Monkees, but I have always loved the music of Queen. Now, I read that not only are they talented musicians, but one of them is now a doctor! Brian May, renowned for what he can do with a guitar, just completed his doctorate in astrophysics. This comes 30 years after he left school to help form Queen. The young May quit Imperial College once the band started becoming successful in 1971. The sixty year old guitarist (who also wrote many … Continue reading

Hollywood’s Single Girls Speak Out

Taking her cue from Demi Moore or Brad Garrett’s ex-wife, “Baywatch” star Carmen Electra says she is still “very good friends” with her rocker ex-husband Dave Navarro—-despite having split from him more than a year ago. Electra says while they are no longer romantically involved they are still “very close.” “We talk on the phone all the time, almost every day,” Electra recently told PEOPLE Magazine. “It’s been great because we’ve been able to stay friends.” You’ll recall the pair starred on the MTV reality show “Til Death Do Us Part.” So was appearing on the show the kiss of … Continue reading

Clay Aiken – Measure of a Man

I may have given you the impression that I’m a Clay Aiken fan. Well, I am! He came out of nowhere to come in second in the American Idol competition, and has outsold Rueben Studdard who did take home the title. With “Measure of a Man,” we have Clay’s debut album. When Clay was getting ready to release this album, producer Clive Davis wanted to title it simply “Clay Aiken.” But Clay wanted the title to convey more of a meaning and a message, rather than just an artist’s name, and he pushed for the album to be called “Measure … Continue reading

Musicians With Heart

Less than two weeks after a gunman unleashed his anger on students and teachers at Virginia Tech, a famous R&B singer has put his feelings about the event into song. According to his publicist, R. Kelly has written a new song, “Rise Up,” about healing in the aftermath of the shootings that snuffed out 33 lives. The new song will be available (digitally) beginning May 15th, and according to Kelly’s record label, 100% of the net proceeds from its sale will go to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund. (The fund was created to provide assistance to the victims of the … Continue reading

Update On The $3900 Meal

In a previous blog I reported that rapper Kayne West would spend today dining on a meal flash-frozen and flown in from the United Kingdom for a princely sum of $3,900. Well, guess what? According to West’s management team, the award-winning musician didn’t take one bite of the Indian meal. In fact, West’s spokesperson told reporters that there was no meeting set for today between the music promotion company (which allegedly ordered the meal and paid for it and the restaurant’s head chef to fly to the Big Apple) and the rapper. In the end, West’s reps called the story … Continue reading

Kylie Minogue Separates from Olivier Martinez

Kylie Minogue has split from her actor boyfriend Olivier Martinez. The two have been together four years, which is almost like twenty-five by Hollywood standards. The couple released a statement saying the split was mutual, amicable, and the two remain close friends. If you are not familiar with Olivier Martinez’s work, he was in Before Night Falls and S.W.A.T., but I always remember him as the handsome roguish boyfriend in Unfaithful. Kyle has gone through quite a bit lately. She began her career in the 1980s when she was on an Australian soap opera called “Neighbours.” After that, she became … Continue reading

Has American Idol Gone Too Far?

I must admit that I only became hooked on American Idol last year. And then that was only because I had someone ask me to blog about it. I had never understood the fascination with the show. I didn’t even start watching last year until they were almost finished with Hollywood. But, I must admit, once I started watching, I was caught up in it. By the end of the season, I was calling in constantly, voting for Taylor. I could not wait until this season started. Apparently, I was not the only one. There were 37.3 million other people … Continue reading

Pop Music–Is The Tide Turning?

Do you remember when the only songs you’d hear when you turned on the radio were either from boy bands or female “teen singing sensations?” ‘N Sync, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera posted hit after hit and sold millions and millions of albums. Youth reigned supreme and being an older singer (say, about 30) was looked down on given the domination of teens on the pop charts. But today it seems the tide is turning. Look at the pop charts these days and you see an entirely different story. Justin Timberlake has graduated from ‘N Sync to raunchy (pardon me, … Continue reading

Is Madonna With Child?

We’ve heard her hint at it in the past and the subject came up again just a few weeks ago, but now word comes that singing sensation Madonna may be holding a new addition to her family by the end of the week. Several news organizations are reporting that the Material Girl’s missionary trip to Malawi was designed not only to help AIDS orphans, but also to adopt a child from the impoverished southern African country. Andrina Mchiela, secretary to the minister for gender and child welfare, said the pop star planned to adopt a child and launch six projects … Continue reading

They Said It Wouldn’t Last… They Were Right

So much for “’Til death do us part.” Well, chock one up for the critics… they were right, this time. Reps for Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro announced that the couple has indeed split. Or in their words: “amicably separated.” Electra, a former “Baywatch” star and Navarro former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist and current host of the TV show “Rock Star: Supernova” were married in November 2003. Ironically, their lavish nuptials were documented on the 2004 MTV reality show “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave.” (Hmmm, didn’t recently divorced Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson also appear on … Continue reading
