Bible Stories: John the Baptist

The next story which is found in the book of Matthew is about John the Baptist. There are only a few short verses found about his story here (Matthew 3:1-17); however, you can find out more information about him through reading the other gospels such as in Luke chapter one which speaks of the events surrounding his birth (which is also a very interesting story). The few verses about John the Baptist show John as a unique individual, wearing a garment of camel’s hair with a leather belt and eating a unique diet of locusts and wild honey (Matthew 3:4). … Continue reading

More Fun with Playing Cards

You and your kids can make your own set of playing cards. Instead of the typical face cards you can make up your own ideas. Clip pictures from magazines, use inexpensive boxed sets of greeting cards for different holidays (just cut the covers off and use them), try some clip art, or use family photos as face cards for a personalized deck. Another way to make your cards really different is to make great big oversized cards or really tiny cards. If you’re using assorted images, you can also play other games with the cards, besides your standard card games … Continue reading

This blog is a continuation of the previous entry of Bible Stories to Share with Your Children. This portion of Joseph’s story can be found in Genesis 37:1-23. His master saw that the LORD was with him … Continue reading

And he made him a robe of many colors.” Interestingly, the next verse speaks of Jacob’s other sons reactions to this: “But when his brothers saw that their father … Continue reading

Parenting throught the Parsha (weekly Torah Portion)

Parenting Through the Parsha (Weekly Torah Portion) It was said by the great Rabbi, Schneur Zalman of Liadi, that every Jew should live with the times. That doesn’t mean checking out the latest fads or getting a trendy haircut, but he meant that we should study the weekly portion of the Torah and to see how it applies to our lives. I’ve found often an amazing correspondence between what is “going on” in the weekly Torah reading and what’s happening in my life (I’d give you a few examples, but they are kind of personal.) Anyway, it is a very … Continue reading
