Star News: New Celeb Hook Ups, Oprah’s New Movie, and Heather Mills’ New Cash Cow

Personally, I don’t find it a bit newsworthy that Elle Macpherson has found love again. NEWSFLASH: Super hot supermodel hooks up with a multi-millionaire! In other news… the sky is blue. The catwalk beauty has found another guy to worship her… SHOCKER! Still, for some reason Australian and British newspapers feel the need to fill their columns with details of Macpherson’s new romance with Damian Aspinall. When hasn’t Macpherson been involved with someone? She was previously married to Gilles Bensimon and engaged to French financier Arpad Busson, who fathered her two sons. Then, late last year the 44-year-old sexpot was … Continue reading

Mike Myers: The Bomb or Just Bombing?

What’s up with Mike Myers? Have you seen the papers recently? The media has unleashed a litany of negative articles on the actor with headlines ranging from “Mike Myers: Cooked or Just Simmering?” to “Mike Myers all Washed Up.” And in the current issue of Rolling Stone, a reporter asks: “Is the failure of The Love Guru merely a slip or a sign of dire things to come?” Which leads to my question: Is the failure of “The Love Guru” really to blame for this media massacre? Sure, critics called Myers latest movie “reprehensible,” while others considered it a “critical … Continue reading

Tom Hanks Aids Italian Bride and Other Celebrities Heading Down the Aisle

Talk about a dream wedding… What blushing bride wouldn’t want Tom Hanks escorting her to the church on her wedding day? Sure, it would be even nicer if the hilarious actor were the one you were getting hitched to, but something is better than nothing. An Italian bride had the privilege of not only getting a Hanks escort, but the mega-movie star actually stopped production on his new film just so she could make it to the church in time to tie the knot. According to British newspapers, Hanks played a real life hero this week by halting filming on … Continue reading

Sniff, Sniff…the Best Tearjerker Movie List – Part 3

I saved the best for last. These are the movies that turned me into a big sobbing, crying, wailing mass of blubber. 3. Saving Private Ryan My little sister and her best friend wanted to see some girly movie at the theater. Not being in the mood, I took them anyhow, but went to see Saving Private Ryan alone. Most people who saw this would say the ending scene, in which Captain John Miller (played by Tom Hanks) dies after having tromped over half of Europe to find Private Ryan, was the tearjerking part. After all, Captain Miller and his … Continue reading

Whatever Happened To…

Michael Conner Humphreys. Remember him? He was the child actor who played a young Forrest Gump on the big screen. Only, unlike many young stars that break into Hollywood before they can even legally drive, Humphreys didn’t stay long. He took gigs here and there, but when he was 18 he joined the Army and fought in an unpopular war. Today, Humphreys is less than a month shy of completing his enlistment and he says he is ready to head back to the silver screen. And he won’t have to wait long before he gets paid to do so. According … Continue reading

The Golden Globe Nominations Are Announced

The award races are off and running! The Hollywood Foreign Press has announced the nomination for the upcoming 65th annual Golden Globes award show. Atonement, which stars Kiera Knightley and James McAvoy, was the big winner – well as far as nominations goes – with seven including Best Picture-Drama, Best Actress-Drama, Best Actor-Drama, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. The other films nominated for Best Picture were American Gangster, Eastern Promises, The Great Debaters, Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men, and There Will Be Blood. Sadly, I have only heard of a couple of … Continue reading

Independent Films of 1997

My movie viewing life as I knew it changed forever in 1994. That year, I fell in love with the movie Forrest Gump. I saw it at the theater two nights in a row and was rooting for it to win Best Picture at the Academy Awards. I had been a Tom Hanks fan since he donned a wig in “Bosom Buddies.” And to this day, I remain a Tom Hanks fan. I was elated when Forrest Gump won Best Picture. Then, about six months later, I realized I was wrong. I was on a business trip with a co-worker. … Continue reading

Big (1988)

“Big” was one of the first movies I ever saw starring Tom Hanks, who, I must say, is a comic genius. Josh Baskin is a thirteen-year-old boy who has a crush on an older girl. When he tries to get her attention, she’s not impressed. Placing a token into a fortune-telling machine, Josh makes a wish. “I want to be big,” he says. When he wakes up the next morning, his wish has come true. When his mother sees him (now played by Tom Hanks) she chases him out of the house, and he turns to his best friend Billy … Continue reading

Hollywood Couples With Heart

They said it wouldn’t last… in Hollywood “they” tend to be right. But, look beyond the Britney and K-Fed’s, the Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz’s, and you’ll see a core group of Hollywood power couples who make love work. Being that today is Valentine’s Day I thought it appropriate to give those happy pairs sometime ink. Here are just a few of Tinseltown’s star couples with staying power: JERRY AND ANNE Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. They’ve been married for more than 50 years (!!) and recently received a joint star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their respective … Continue reading

Tom Hanks Scores Military Honor

It didn’t have a name like Oscar, Tony, or Emmy, but for actor Tom Hanks, the recent award presented to him by the U.S. military, is just as special. Thursday night Hanks was named an honorary member of the U.S. Army’s Ranger Hall of Fame for his “accurate portrayal of a World War II Army Ranger company commander” in the movie “Saving Private Ryan” and for his “continued commitment to honoring those who served in the war.” He becomes the first actor to receive such an honor. In addition to his role in “Saving Private Ryan,” Hanks was recognized for … Continue reading
