Valentines Day: God’s Valentine

When you think of Valentine’s Day, what do you think of? Many people think about love, and spending time with the sweetheart in their life. Some people think of chocolates, flowers, dining out and taking time to let the person you adore know they’re special. Some religions including Jehovah’s Witnesses do not celebrate Valentines Day. Part of the reason is the pagan origins of the holiday, and some of it is because we should show love every day, not just on February 14th. Most of us take Valentine’s Day to go the extra mile and show our love to the … Continue reading

Today’s Love Letters is going to look back at the Legend of Valentine’s Day. Where did it come from and why do we celebrate it? The Legend of Valentine It seems appropriate to begin our great tales of romance with the legend of Valentine. In the United States, February is synonymous with candy, hearts, perfume, flowers and romance. From our smallest children making their very simple … Continue reading

Letters of Love: My Wife, My Best Friend

Today’s letter of love comes from a husband who reads the blog occasionally, but knows that his wife really enjoys checking here everyday to read the articles and more. He decided, rather on the spur of the moment, to write a letter to his wife and he asked if I would publish it today, because it’s her birthday. So here it is and please accept my well-wishes for a very happy birthday. My Wife & My Best Friend Dear Diane, I hope you get to read this the morning it’s published. I’ve asked the blogger putting up these articles to … Continue reading

Things We Love Album

We all have things we love. They may be as simple as the feeling of clean sheets as we climb into bed or as important as family. Why not create something that celebrates the things you love? These things are the little bits of information that your family and others will want to know about you in years to come. I recently completed this little (4 X 4) accordion album about the things each member of our family loves. This was a very simple project that only took a couple of hours to put together. Each page of the album … Continue reading

Using Valentine Products in New Ways

With so many fun Valentine scrapbooking products available right now, it’s hard to resist picking up a few things to play with. But if you are like me, you don’t really do a lot of Valentine’s Day layouts. I might do 1 layout to celebrate what we did that day and make a few cards to give to my kids and husband, but other than that, I thought I didn’t have much use for these love themed products. Once I started brainstorming ways to use these products on layouts other than a Valentine’s Day layout, I came up with a … Continue reading

Have a Frugal Valentine

Now that the holiday decorations are all put away (or almost all put away, depending on how much time and or holiday spirit you have), it is time to think of hearts and flowers. Valentine’s Day is such a pretty holiday, with its pinks, reds and whites. There are plenty of ways to decorate and celebrate your Valentine’s day without breaking the bank. There is no need to spend a fortune at the card store. The key is to getting creative and using whatever you have on hand. One year, I used the luminaries (paper bags with cut outs that … Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Roots

February 14th is a day that recognizes love. The candies, the flowers; they are all on display for sale in stores decorated with Cupids and hearts. Restaurants are filled with couples dining by candlelight. Love is in the air… So where did this holiday come from? Cupid (“god of the heart”) was the “son” deity also referred to as Tammuz, Nimrod, and Osiris, just to name a few. He is shown with an arrow representing Nimrod as the “mighty hunter”. It’s said he would shoot people in the heart. His mother was Venus, Semiramis, Juno (depending on where you were) … Continue reading

Love Theme Handmade Card – Idea Two

Making and giving a card to a loved one is like giving a piece of yourself to them. It is something that they will hopefully treasure. I would like to share a card I recently made for Valentine’s Day. It could be used year round to give as a fun surprise to your spouse or child. The only materials that I used for this card came from the SEI Twitterpated Paper Assortment Kit. I used four of the patterned papers and one of the fuzzy iron-ons that came in the kit. Using kits is such a great way to guarantee … Continue reading

Love Theme Handmade Card – Idea One

Even though Valentine’s Day has past, it would still be fun to surprise a loved one with a handmade card just to let them know how much you love them. I put together a love themed card and want to share it with you. This is a simple enough design that you could enlist your children to help you put it together. They could even make enough to give out to several of their friends. This was a quick and easy card to put together. The “Be Mine” Heart is actually a fuzzy iron-on! This is my favorite part of … Continue reading
