Single’s Awareness Day

It’s February 14 and for most couples, this is the day to give little thoughtful gifts that say I love you. Typical gifts include chocolates, flowers and jewelry or a romantic dinner out. Valentine’s Day is definitely a Hallmark holiday, remarkable for the sale of cards, candies and other treats. For the singles in our lives, it’s a loud reminder that we are alone. It’s not hard to remember the Valentine’s you spent without a ‘significant’ other in your life. Yet it can be just as difficult to discount the meaning of Valentine as being related only to passionate love. … Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Emoticons

Valentine’s Day Emoticons Are your kids glued to the computer? Do you have to send them an Instant Message to tell them dinner is ready? Do they communicate with their friends in a strange language consisting of strings of letters that don’t make any sense? (Hint: TTFN = Ta Ta For Now = See You Later). They might be perfect candidates for an electronic Valentine from….you! Yes, Mom or Dad can invade that hallowed space of electronic socialization usually reserved for peers. Valentine’s Day Morning Fun

I don’t care much for Valentine’s Day, as far as lovers exchanging flowers and chocolates and cards. As far as I’m concerned, if you love someone, these things should be happening occasionally out of a desire from the heart, not dictated by retail establishments and a date on the calendar.
