John Cena Talks Smack about Dwayne Johnson

Do you remember when Dwayne Johnson just went by the name The Rock and talked about the People’s Elbow? Yeah, neither do most of those at the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards show he hosted last night. Wrestler turned actor John Cena appeared on the award show last night, but Cena doesn’t seem to completely agree with the path Johnson has taken. Johnson came from a family of wrestling legacy (both is father Rocky Johnson and maternal grandfather Peter Maivia were wrestlers), but he hasn’t wrestled in the WWE full time since 2003. After an attempt at the obvious action hero … Continue reading

No, Really, I am Still Alive!

Yesterday, I was talking about premature obituaries. These are obits that somehow get released to the public before the celebrity in question is actually dead. Sometimes, it happens when technicians or reporters just accidentally press the wrong button. Sometimes, the celebrity had been ill and perhaps the media outlet is just hoping to get the jump on everyone else. Sometimes, it is just a joke gone bad. Despite how it happened, here are a few more untimely obituary releases: Melody Maker magazine had the macabre idea to publish an Alice Cooper concert review in the form of a fake obituary … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Reinvents Himself – Part II

In my last blog, I was talking about how former WWE superstar Dwayne Johnson is reinventing himself into a movie star. First, he took on a bunch of action roles, understandable given his former profession. Then he starred in Disney’s The Game Plan. This was the perfect meld of the old Dwayne and the new Dwayne. He played a narcissistic football star (he played college football for the University of Miami) who unexpectedly finds out he has a daughter. Maybe this role hit close to home for Dwayne because he has a daughter of his own, Simone Alexandra. Proving he … Continue reading

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Reinvents Himself – Part I

We have a WWE clock in our garage that my husband has had for at least eight years. Every once in while when I am coming in from the car, I heard The Rock say “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?” In case you haven’t noticed, what The Rock is cooking up is a new image for himself. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has gone from WWE superstar to movie star in a small amount of time and very successfully, I might add. He is even getting a new name – his old one. If you look at the … Continue reading

Vince McMahon wants to make you a Millionaire and a lot of Dough for a lot of “D’Oh!”

But it won’t be easy. First of all, you really should be a fan of pro wrestling because you are going to need to sit through hours of World Wrestling Entertainment matches to obtain details on how to rake in the dough. But, that’s all part of Vince McMahon’s plan to boost ratings for WWE’s “Monday Night Raw.” Last week WWE’s head honcho said he would give away $1 million of his own money to viewers, but he didn’t specify exactly how the funds would be distributed. At this point all we know is that the cash is part of … Continue reading

Nick Bollea and Hulk Hogan: What WERE They Thinking?

Michele and I both have blogged before about the car accident that involved Hulk Hogan’s son Nick and one of his best friends, John Graziano. Nick, who had gotten many speeding tickets before the near fatal car crash, was recently sentenced to 8 months in prison and 3 years probation. John, meanwhile, remains in a hospital bed, where it looks as if he will need constant medical attention for the rest of his life. Now that Nick, 17, has spent a few weeks in jail, it seems that he regrets his decision to accept the guilty plea and wishes he … Continue reading

Presidential Smackdown

Now here’s a wrestling match I have a feeling many Americans would pay to view: Barack Obama vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton vs. John McCain. Unfortunately, the closest most of us will likely get to seeing a presidential smackdown is a rerun of last night’s war of words between the candidates on World Wrestling Entertainment’s live “Monday Night Raw.” The ultra-hyped “smackdown” turned out to be more of a stumping with each candidate delivering a wrestling-themed verbal attack. The taped messages appeared on USA network’s most popular primetime show in advance of tonight’s Pennsylvania primary. “Tonight, in honor of the WWE, … Continue reading

Brad Renfro Results and CW Gives WWE the Smack

The toxicology reports are back on both Brad Renfro and Heath Ledger and sadly, both are very similar. A statement from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office was released which said that Brad Renfro died of “acute heroin/morphine intoxication” or in other words, an accidental heroin overdose. The 25-year-old actor was found dead on January 15th in his apartment. The coroner on the Heath Ledger case has also ruled he died of an accidental overdose. When the young actor was found dead, he had six different prescription drugs in his system. The drugs were a mixture of painkillers (hydrocodone and … Continue reading

WWE Superstar Chris Benoit: 1967 – 2007

I think I have mentioned it here before, but I have a secret…I am a closet wrestling fan. Yes, I know it is not real, but neither are television shows or movies and I love those just the same. I grew up watching wrestling. Seriously, I was a teen when Jerry “The King” Lawler, now an announcer for the WWE, was in his wrestling heyday. My husband started watching wrestling later in life than I did. He was in his thirties when he was conned into watching it by his then-roommate. But, shortly thereafter, he was hooked too. We didn’t … Continue reading

“The Donald” Keeps His Hair

When I wrote about Donald Trump’s wrestling bet a few weeks back I made a bet with myself that the entire “Battle of the Billionaires” showdown was a big April Fools Day joke. Well, it turns out I may have been partially right. For those of you who don’t keep tabs on The Donald’s bets (or his hair… or loss of it), Trump was involved in what World Wrestling Entertainment owner Vince McMahon dubbed a “hairy smackdown.” Essentially, the Trumpster and McMahon had WWE wrestlers duke it out in the ring on their behalf last night (April 1, 2007). Pro … Continue reading
