Are Your Pets on YouTube?

When Wayne bought me my new digital camera last Christmas, I knew it spelled trouble for Murphy, Mr. Meow and Tabby. Because not only could I take pictures without having to hassle with film anymore (which freed me to snap, snap, snap as many pics as I wanted), I could also take video. An Amateur Pet Film Maker Is Born I had such high hopes that I could capture Mr. Meow doing his maestro show on the air vent or the cats chasing each other, but so far no luck. I quickly found out what a tricky business capturing pets … Continue reading

You Tube Babies!

If you need a little pick me up in the day, why not check out You Tube? Sure you can find episodes of the Tudors or Lost, but for something that is baby-friendly and will make even your little ones smile when they are cranky, why not check out some of the cutest baby videos. It may even serve as a reminder that although you’ve cleaned up baby poop all day, it is still worth it. Here are some of my favorite You Tube Babies. Hahaha There are actually a couple of version of this video out there. I don’t … Continue reading

RickRolling: What’s It All About?

Children of the 80’s rest easy – you are cool once again! Going along the theme that “what’s old is new again” the crazy kids of today have resurrected a most ancient fossil from the 80’s – Rick Astley. Back in the 80’s, we knew Rick was never gonna give us up, never gonna let us down, never gonna run around and desert us, never gonna make us cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt us. But, he did say goodbye, along with other 80’s phenoms like Spandau Ballet and Kajagoogoo. Rick’s reign of pop … Continue reading

YouTube Roundup: Amazing Robots

I’m fascinated by all of those household robots that promise to do everything from make toast to hand wash the dishes. Here is a round up of some of the most interesting, scary or fascinating YouTube videos of household robots. Readybot gets put through its paces as a kitchen helper. Set to peppy music the Readybot opens a can of soup, grasps and moves dishes around and scrapes garbage off of the counter. To watch the Readybot, click here. This next video scares me a bit. In it, a very humanoid-type service robot pours a cup of water and then … Continue reading

The Wii – a Lot More Than Just Games

During one of the Christmas specials we taped this year we saw a commercial for Shrek the Halls. Being Shrek fans, my family was disappointed when we found out we had missed it. My husband suggested that maybe someone had put the show up on YouTube and that we could watch it on the computer. We talked about how cool it was that you could watch missed TV shows online. My oldest son had an even better idea. He turned on the Wii and went to the Wii internet channel. A few minutes later he found Shrek the Halls divided … Continue reading

Queen Elizabeth Internet Star?

Prince William’s granny is going global… via the World Wide Web. Britain’s 81-year-old royal matriarch is entering foreign territory, but the queen says she is up to the task. Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s oldest-ever monarch and an icon of traditionalism, launched her own special Royal Channel on YouTube today. Which just goes to prove that it is never too late to join the YouTube generation. The queen’s introduction to the popular video-sharing website comes a little more than 36 hours before she sends out her 50th annual televised Christmas message, which will be streamed on her YouTube site. The queen’s … Continue reading

Dreams Really Do Come True

I have to hand it to Jamie Foxx—-he’s come a long way in the past few years. In less than a decade the actor who was raised by his grandmother has moved from the standup stage to the Oscar stage. (See, dreams really do come true.) And now the Academy Award-winner has another prominent award to add to his collection—-a spot on Hollywood Boulevard. Foxx received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday and wasted no time thanking the woman he credits with shaping his life. “My grandmother’s gotta be spreading her wings and flying around in … Continue reading

Pop Culture Goes High Tech

I have blogged about the power of YouTube in previous entries, but this latest incident truly proves how powerful the medium has become. Police in New Zealand say they were able to catch a thief thanks to a video posted on the popular Internet video sharing site, YouTube. According to officers, the man was taped circling the store, stealing a laptop computer, slipping it into his overcoat, then stepping out of the store unnoticed. Or so he thought. Shortly after the thief took off, his performance in the store was posted on YouTube – set to “The Pink Panther” music … Continue reading

iPhone: The 12th Icon

Have you seen the iPhone mock up on Apple’s website? It features some pretty colorful icons that promise that the iPhone will do all sorts of great features. There are four icons at the bottom: Phone, Mail, Web and iPod, that show off the standard functionality of the iPhone. But on the rest of the screen, there are other icons, eleven to be exact, lined up along the screen like little soldiers. Well, lined up like little soldiers who are waiting for their last comrade to arrive. There appears to be one icon that is missing. Maybe I am the … Continue reading

Wednesday Widgets: YouTubeMe

One of the most popular Internet phenomena now has its very own widget! My husband is six years older than I am, and he always tells me that I am from that other generation; the one that embraces all of the new socialization culture of the Internet. But the truth be told, although I am aware of of these cool networks, websites and ways of communicating, I’m slow to embrace them fully. Take YouTube, for example. Sure, I’ve seen a couple of videos here and there, but I never really got attached. Well, thanks to the YouTubMe widget, that fact just … Continue reading
